Tbh, this is all irrelevant because Helldivers is P2P. This shouldn't even be a problem they have to deal with. New World was an MMO with vastly different servers.

They said the devs could just buy more and they are being greedy.
they arent being greedy, they wrote bad backend code that literally cant be scaled to the extent it needs to be. l2read
This is an excuse, Fortnite uses AWS which is a on demand service. Most live games use this kind of service to host what ever capacity is being demanded
Its not just as easy as throwing more servers at it, the games API, DB and infrastructure also has to be able to cope with the added traffic, this could mean re-coding the games architecture.
