Autocannon is better for bot hordes because it tears right through their light/medium armor and has AOE, until you get to the heavier enemies anyway.
As long as you have a loader Recoilless will do more damage to bigger targets and shreds armor, but good luck if you do not have a loader.
One charger can stop me reloading.
I don't mind slow reloads against other targets, but with chargers you're kinda f-ucked. At least with bots you can get to cover to reload more easily. Baring those close range saw ones. But they can be taken down with weaker weapons.
Granted the recoilless rifle is significantly heavier anti-armor, but I'd honestly rate the EAT as a better thing to slot across the time frame of a mission. Simply because it comes up so often.
If you are playing on anything under challenging, you can just take the auto canon, on challenging any above you are gonna wanna have something to deal with heavy armor, unless your gorup has it as well.
Auto canon is a great all around weapon, just understand you gotta prioritize bigger things over the small fries.
If dealing with Automotons, I'd suggest having one of each. The RR can one-shot drop ships if you hit their engines, it's like the one thing the AC can't do.
Yep, they make reloading no fun AT ALL. That is why the assisted reload exists, but so few seem to care to try it. Sad.
Autocannon can cheaply and easily destroy factory vents from far away(as long as you angle correctly), can more-efficiently dispatch lighter armored targets(scout striders, head of hulk...etc.) and can be reloaded on your own fairly quickly(fire and reload 5 at a time). But it bounces off non-weakspot of tanks/towers...etc.
Recoilless can kill dropship in one hit(if you know how to aim).
Doesn't really bounce off anything you need to kill. (except factory vents, those still need to be shot at proper angle)
But it has very poor ammo efficiency.
These are things you choose those two over railgun for.
You can dive sideways and complete a reload even if charger didn't hit a rock/wall.
What would stop reload would be the other enemies or multiple chargers.
Main issue of recoilless is the amount of ammo(if you're not one-shotting or using it to remove armor to finish off with primary, ammo efficiency is far worse) you carry and how few you get from supply/ammopack.
Obviously not practical 99% of time.
