i cannot say how much of a difference it would make in helldivers, but id wager it would be rather noticeable with all the stuff happening on the map.
more importantly tho, its over 10 years old, at this point you shouldnt assume anything will work without it, its default for most modern compilers.
odds are bad for playing now anyway with the server problems so just get that shiny new rig and meet us all on the other side when it's hopefully better
If you are always that impatient, consider getting new rigs/hardware directly from a computer store instead. This way you can just plug in and play on the same day you purchased it.
