Anti-Material Rifle vs Railgun
Any reason to pick the former over the latter? I mean you can ministun charge, tear the hulk limb to limb only with the latter so what is the point?

The Railgun is superior when the chaos unfolds; but it's inaccurate at medium distances and it's level 20.

Anti-Material Rifle is more intended to let you pick off small enemies from long range afaik and is for a specific playstyle, not sure if it's capable of penetrating medium armour?, Railgun is more for the big bois to try and chunk and stun them

The Railgun is the only thing that lets you deal with Chargers and Titans effectively on higher difficulties.

That's like comparing apples to oranges 2 completely different beast with different purpose

That's what i'm talking about, i always pick railgun regardless mission choices. As for anti-material rifle since they don't do jack to heavily armored foe i'd say its around for sniper playstyle. But then again who would pick that without being regarded by teammate as liability?

AMR: More and faster shots, better for long range, can kill medium armored enemies.

Railgun: Can kill everything with enough shots.

If you have problems with masses of medium enemies go for AMR.
If you only have trouble with chargers and bile titans take the railgun.

Also for bot walkers you need 3 shots with the AMR, while with the railgun you only need 1

I guess early game it could be useful, maybe late game for someone who's going Stalker hunting maybe? Doubt it'd be useful there though tbh

comparing an apple to an orange except the orange is actually an apple that is bigger and tastier than the other apple and wont get you laughed out of lobbies past difficulty 3

Railguns can kill a lot of the big mobs if you switch it off to the unsafe mode plus the stun on chargers if it's charged prematurely.

Rifle atm not so much. Very niche. Haven't had much luck shooting down ships.

My guess is that you think the railgun is superior in every way, which is complete bs.

It's ammo is much more limited, you have to reload after every shot, you have to charge your shot which leads to much higher time to kill medium armored enemies.
AMR can kill 4-6 spitters in the time the railgun kills 1.

Is AMR useless against chargers and titans? Yes
Do you have a team and other stratagems to compensate? Also yes

I really like the AMR, it's just fun popping bugs and bots with it. But on higher difficulties it's really hard to pick it over the Railgun.

20+1 shots is more than enough. Past a certain point you can easily deal with scores of spitters with stratagems(eagle airstrike unlocks soon after AMR and will get you way more mileage, even into absolute endgame) or just a single grenade. You can also just shoot them in the face with your primary, the breaker can kill spitters in just a few headshots without making you carry around a useless support weapon that can't kill medium bugs nearly as fast as an arc thrower and can't deal with any heavies at all. It's a joke weapon, the only support weapon that is worse than the Laser Cannon right now. Speaking of medium armored enemies, every single one can be taken down in 2-3 shots by primary weapons. Devastators can have their unarmored faces mulched, hive guards and brood commanders have extremely vulnerable back legs that, when blown off, completely disable them if they don't die outright.

That's why you need to be level 20 and why it costs so much.
[Asgard] Thor Feb 19, 2024 @ 1:28am
Railgun is just the ultimate answer to armored enemies. Two shots to a crusher leg plus small arms and it's dead in 10 seconds. That stratagem didn't kill the bile titan? Finish it off with the railgun.

Current balance makes it so there is no reason to not grab the railgun every time as it will be overwhelming powerful against actual threats your primary cant deal with. Only reason to grab the AMR is if your bringing a really bad primary weapon for some reason and the AMR will serve as a good substitute. It's terrible at dealing with chargers even in the backside and a bit better for knocking off arms of mechs or head shooting them from a distance.

Something you'd think would be good at like knocking out the canon turrets from afar but no it takes like two mags into the glowing parts to kill one.
