Anti-Material Rifle? How viable on 4+ difficulty?
I've not tried playing beyond medium difficulty just yet, and I really enjoy the AM rifle, however, I am curious how it fairs on harder content?

As far as I can tell, it looks like the saturation of enemies, it may be better to ditch the AM rifle in favor of something like the SPEAR or rail gun.

After using it for the daily 60 kills today, it's actually not bad if you stay back and just snipe automatons with it. Especially like the missile bots or the heavy devastators. It can't hurt the hulk in the front which isn't that big of a problem because most of the deaths comes from the mentioned previous 2 types of bots. I would not recommend using against the terminids.

Was playing on suicide mode with randoms and no one died.

the simple Breaker shotgun can also snipe regular enemies with 1-2 shot at LoS range.

i'd rather have a grenade launcher clearing packs of trash and including the Walker thing + clear bug outpost and the very very annoying armored Acid Lobbers in T7+ and clear bug holes than almost any other Weapon.

Only weapon worth right now are

- Recoiless Rifle (basically a rocket laucher) but you are stuck with the pack that comes with it, so you cannot have a laser bot or energy shield

- one shot Rocket ... very low CD 2 per drop makes it very valuable to have somehting available on demand to nuke elites.

- Magnetic Gun ... nuff said, in Unsafe mode, only weapon able to Delete elites in 1-2 Rounds including Titans pretty much on demand.

- Grenade Launcher because aoe clear, lot of ammo, efficient on some medium elites that could otherwise be annoying to deal with, extra nade for bug hole clearing. making it my favorite for any Mission that will have massive amount of hole stomping and i can usually go solo on map do everything while the team focus on other objectives.

anything else feels and plays bad in my opinion.

and for main weapon i rarely see anyone using anything else than the breaker shotgun because of how stupid powerful it is, nothing main weapon comes even close.
I feel the diligence does better at sniping, the breaker is nice for "general" fights but the diligence's accuracy is very nice and it's almost always a one-shot on all of the light enemies (of which are abundant)

It's a challenge indeed, but it really pays off if you can hit them. Fairly safe to do against the melee hulks but it's scary as hell trying to shoot the head off the rocket one.
I end up just trying to disarm hulks by shooting their shoulders from range with the AMR as i've had no luck hitting their head.
It's pretty good. I think it does hold some merit over the Auto-cannon especially at range and for dealing with the more middle tier enemies like Devastators.

The Autocannon on the other hand you can't bring a backpack with, takes longer to reload, forces stationary reload and is generally harder to aim with, with inferior first person sights and no zoom adjustment.

The Autocannon however gains more general firepower, armor penetration and damage.

The AMR doesn't cost a backpack, you get a nice scope with a big view and adjustable zoom, you can reload whilst moving and it's generally faster in terms of everything. It's also significantly more useful for dealing with enemies at long range which gives it more merit against Automatons.

The downsides over the autocannon is it has no crosshair in third person, it hold less armor penetration and damage.

Generally, if you want to serve a more anti-tank role, go for the Autocannon but if you want to more or less serve a precision role capable of hitting disabling or killing shots at long distance whilst remaining more generally mobile you're better off with the AMR.

They both serve niches that can seem similar at first glance but actually are used for different roles. The Autocannon is an anti-tank rifle, the AMR is a heavy sniper rifle.

Generally speaking though, I think the AMR is better at dealing with Automaton's whilst the Autocannon is better at bug hunts.
Also don't forget, rocket devastators you can shoot the rocket pods on their shoulders. At range this is significantly easier to do with the AMR due to the higher magnification bigger lens view scope.
I also find the AMR is perfectly fine for putting out trash tier enemies aswell as it's ammo efficient enough for it.
Against bugs?
Its meh.
Against bots?
Its alright.
Autocannon is the true anti-material rifle you want

All devastators die in two body shots as well. The berserkers are my only bane as a long-range helldiver really, but if you have a machine pistol or really quick aim they can be quelled too.
Only useful against Automatons, and the autocannon is simply a better option. For bugs, railgun is the way to go.

Idk why people keep saying the autocannon is better when it freezes you in place on reload and takes up a backpack slot. The shield makes fighting automatons just way more easy in my honest opinion. The other backpacks are good too, the jetpack can get you to hard-to-reach positions and the supply pack lets you stray from your team without taking supplies from the rest.

If you want pure damage sure the autocannon is better at the deeps, but the antimat is great in ammo economy and you have options for backpacks.

It does perfect damage idk what you're smoking. The devastators die in two shots or one if you hit the weak spot (unless you're aiming at arbitrary areas like the crotch or arms), and if you shoot at a good spot the walkers die in 1-3 shots (while you're at a long or high range tho you can hit their heads with a marksman just fine)

Just because a gun doesn't obliterate everything in one shot doesn't mean it sucks, you're probably just not taking advantage of its utilities. You can use the autocannon if you feel the benefits are better for your playstyle, but that doesn't mean the AMR is objectively inferior. I for one like that the AMR lets you reload on the go, that I can have a backpack option if I want a shield or jetpack, and I still get to be far away from the enemy. It doesn't have the same power but it trades in mobility and versatility, for me.
