1080Ti and i7 9700K, should I bother?
I'm not gonna pretend my rig isn't old but the 1080Ti has continued to surprise me with newer stuff. But half the posts on this forum are about the bad performance, and I'm on the lower end of the system reqs (which might be lies?).

So I guess my question is if anyone with similar hardware is running this game fine? And no, I don't really care if you bought a 40 series card and it runs fine for you, no one does.

I have a 1080ti and get 80-120+ fps.
The question is if you are going to be running it with everything maxxxxxxed out and 8k res or not.

Imo settings that matter the most like textures and effects can be dialed up no problem but like any aging GPU its the lighting, shadows, reflections and those type of things that really hits its performance.

I would not recommend anyone buying the game at this time though, plenty of crash issues + server issues that are bad enough its borderline impossible to play anywhere close to EU/US prime time.

Put it on wish list or w/e and check back in week/s or month/s to see if things are better.

Turn down demanding stuff like shadows and stuff and you should be fine.

Configuring demanding games for my Steam Deck has taught me that Textures gives you the best bang for the buck so I recommend OP setting Texture Quality to high or even maximum while turning down other settings like you suggested.
RTX 2080Ti and i7-8700K on WQHD all low FPS drops to 20 FPS, almost unplayable on higher dificulty levels with a lot enemys on the screen

Friend has the same set up as you and gets stable 60 fps. Im on a 2060 6gb tho and it runs alright for me. Mid settings 70-90 FPS. I do cap my FPS because my cpu cooler is trash

I will say that HD2 looks rather dated. It's poorly optimized, and looks like something cira-7-9 years ago, so I'm surprised its performance isn't as good as it should be; which strikes me that the developers are console-centric, and have a subpar team that is porting it to PC.
Hm...
I don't know, for me it looks amazing, and runs quite well too, usually stays at 120 FPS for me, rarely dips below 90.
And that is everything on max settings on 4k.
I have an i7-9700k (I think its 9700k) and a 1060-6gb and my game is smooth on low, so a 1080 will hold for medium or higher for sure

i7-7700k and 1080Ti here.

Running it on medium. Works fine.
ryzen 9 5900x gtx1080 2560x1440 60 fps everywhere in medium
Currently user hardware not a big issue but is the dev themselves; Their server optimization and every update they roll out, with every new update they introduce new issue unto the games.

Even for this latest update they had officially announced the current unstable CTD, disconnecting and game freezing up come along together with this new update. We're looking at timeframe of next week for hotfix. Helldivers 2 is solid and fun game but is kinda in Early Access condition but I guarantee it still better than alot incompetent cash grab studio out there.
Yeah, you'll be fine. If you have to, put settings down. You don't even notice.
I have a 1070 youll be fine.

I play with a 1080ti and 5800x3d. Get 60fps solid at 1080p in fire fights. You'll be fine.
I'm on a bog standard 1080 and an i5-10400 and I can run it at 60fps stable. You'll be fine.
im on a ryzen 9 12core 4070ti 32gb and still facing issues from time to time. poeple report a lot of crashes since last update. i had one aswell today. also the game has poor optimization. usualy i game at stable 144fps but i need to be happy with variable 100-120 in this game.
You can always try Hd gaming requires lower minimals then 2-4k gaming obv.

1080ti, probably not.
1080ti at 1440p, zero issues on high across the board.
