Helldivers 2 Hits Big: Why Are Servers Still Capped?
Props to the devs for Helldivers 2—amazing work! With around 1 million units sold at $40-$60 each, not counting microtransactions, the game's grossed an estimated $40M+. So, why not use a small slice of that ($50k-$100k) to double server capacity? Seems like a quick fix for better gameplay. Thoughts on why this hasn't happened?

And for those who will say "It's not that simple" Let me tell you that it sadly is that simple. I've worked long enough in the tech industry to intrinsically know that any problem can be fixed expediently by throwing money at it.

because the studio is run by a corporation and a corporation has no connection with reality. THey have to maximise profit no matter what, even if they sell one more million, things wont get better.
They should also suspend the sale of the game if the servers can't handle more people.

I am more upset that each patch made the game worse instead of making it better. The matchmaking was deliberatly broken by a patch on friday....that could have been reverted but the devs didnt do that.
Right now, they are simply waiting for people to stop playing the game so the servers are not on fire anymore

Why don't the devs just buy more servers? Are they stupid?

Except you've haven taken into account Steam takes 30 days to pay out. Remember the fiasco with The Day Before a couple months ago ? Not sure how PS handles pay outs but there is not giant influx on money yet.

Not defending the lack of server space but ya know, its more than just black and white issue.

It will tarnish the legacy and longevity of the game imho. These parent companies need a wake up call.

Listen, Sony didn't get rich by doing things the right way. If they did, the newer Play Stations would last more than a year.

Sure, they can buy more servers, but does it solve the problem by itself? No. The game is built around a dedicated galactic war constantly persisting and those stats constantly updating. New players add to it, old also add to it, but the problem right now is the overbearing numbers is too much for the current server infrastructure to support, so it likely has to be redone, not just "Added onto" which is not something "Just throwing money at it." is going to solve. You're likely looking at a few days, if not a week or two of sporadic matchmaking issues until this is resolved.

All this is not uncommon in online gaming in general and the more popular a game is, the worse it gets. Even MHW suffered similar things.

The issue isn't solely the servers but the database. They're overflowing which is creating a bottleneck. The server cap is a problem but the database overflow is much worse and tricky to fix.
