Why is HD2 so popular?

This is insane...

Why is that?
HD2 changed basically nothing except the players perspective and maybe better graphics due to the closer look players get.

Don't get me wrong, I feel very happy for the game and it's devs.
What I am curious about, is, that so many ppl on yt, twitch, social media and what not, were completely surprised by the game. Some saying it popped out of the nowhere for them. Like (the absolutely fantastic) HD1 never existed...

From mixed reviews, the game just went kinda viral over the course of a weak or so.

I can already see Helldivers walking around at gamescom and such.

I figured out steam charts numbers are not accurate. The numbers are actually higher, at least for HD2. But still, the gap between those 2 games is huge.

Going from isometric from full 3d with awsome graphics is not just "changing the perspective", music are great, sound design is awsome, gunplay feel so cool, the lore is good, and you can farm the microtransaction playing the game. cuz its surprising when a live service game isnt complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and has good devs, good community, good gameplay, a way to earn all currencies, and actual care put into it. of course people are going nuts for it

I looked into Helldivers 1 when I noticed HD2 popping up on top sellers, It’s not my type of game and I wasn’t interested..
HD2 gives me chaotic destiny style gameplay and everyone loves a chaotic co-op game w the boys

Also Darktide wasn't that good too and vermintide2 is kind of old. Alien and Space Troopers games wasn't exciting too.

Yeah that too, i even forgot about theses games lmao, Also Payday3 launch was incredibly disappointing.

Why for me it because fighting bugs make me feel like I'm in a Starship troopers movie while fighting bots make me feel like I'm in a Terminator movie. (Future war like the classic portray)

The game was release at a good time of the year where there is no other major releases.
$40 and microtransaction is surprisingly handle fairly where you can get everything in-game

The same thing happen with Palworld and Tekken.
They were able to maximize profits within their own genre with no competition.

Helldivers 2 has the effect of Risk of Rain 2 for me too.
I'm not a fan of how Risk of Rain 1 plays but I really enjoyed Risk of Rain 2.

If the perspective is keeping you from play certain games, you'll be missing out on a few very good gaming experiences imo. I respect your choice to not play them though.
