The bugs are not okay right now and it's not about difficulty
3 things, that i think have nothing to do with difficulty, and make bugs straight up unpleasant to play against:

Bug breach call: I think we all agree, the animation for this is stupidly quick, the system was supposed to be centered around navigating through patrols and quickly eliminate them before they call for help. With bugs it's pure RNG. They either need to have only a specific type of bug who can call for it, it's stupid even the armored ones can call for breach. OR they should have longer animations.

Spewers: Let's be honest, every encounter with one is pure coin flip whether you live or die, and they are spammed by the dozens, it's just a chore to keep track with them. Honestly i think one solution is they should have higher range, but way longer wind up and zero tracking, or maybe just their damage lowered, i don't know but they are a CHORE.

Charger ANIMATIONS: no, not health, armor or anything, their ANIMATIONS specifically are abysmal. They gain momentum instantly, they can straight up ice skate sometimes, they can cancel their own animations including stagger, straight up like in some fighting game, and they give absolute zero feedback when they are hit. Their behaviour on the battlefield MAKES. NO. SENSE. You cannot read them, you can just prey they die fast. Honestly, no idea how to fix it, but i truly belive this is the issue that makes people truly hate them.

I don't care if they spawn 2 times as many bugs to counteract those fixes, it's not about difficulty, it's just remarkably annoying rng incidents that dictate the whole flow of the mission.

I agree with all the things you say. I enjoy playing against the Automatons so much more simply because they are far, far more consistent.

my main problem with bugs is that they spawn too close so we can't use sniper or many stratagems. Hard to hold a line when they spawn on top of your head. And there are way too many stalkers.

Stalkers are awful, going for the nests are always a top priority imo.

Chargers are like cliffracers from Morrowind.

They chase me even on steep cliffs. It's not even a metaphor. How do they keep up?

I once saw on charger literally drift past a rock that was supposed to stop it

I also hate how just gently touching a charger's leg while it isn't moving at all damages you.

Also, chargers can seemingly scale mountains if they so wish, but a helldiver gets stuck on a small ledge...

Spewers - take shield on you back, or take autocannon in your hands, or place rocket and autocannon turrets.(but without shield you still can suddenly melt i suppose)
Chargers - you still can be sure that you can dodge this in the right moment if this thing is running/ice scating to you by the earth/cliffs,(if you have place to dodge) you can be sure that they will instantly run after you/someone after one-second stagger from railgun shot into the head which will stop them for this one second, and you can be sure that they will try to ruin your turret after some time even if you are shooting in this creature.(well much things in them are not right and are annoying, but you can read them)

Agreed on all points. Chargers can also do a 180 degree spin while charging. I've dived out of the way of a charge only for the charger to spin around without stopping and hit me before I could stand back up, or the charger stops completely but my character still gets launched and damaged despite the charger not moving or having any momentum.

Chargers are a broken joke. For something so big it sure can turn quick

Breaches are in that cursed spot of "a bit overtuned" so people get really defensive over them.

When it comes to natural patrols, I have tried to love the stun orbital to save on the heavy call in cooldowns. but I have seen stunned bugs still start a breach because we didn't call down the wrath of god on them or waste a ton of anti armor ammo.

Then it gets extra shameless for objectives where they just spawn a fresh breach twenty feet away from the control panel every step of the objective. Which is a big part of why I keep rolling my eyes any time some faux hardcore gamer yells at people "Just don't cause them then! Just run away idiot!"

And those are "Ah yes, videogame moon logic >>> skill or pattern recognition" annoyances that apply regardless of the types of enemy coming out of them! Which reduce the satisfaction of dealing with them.

1) Breach call is amazing in the way that you can only have 1 on the entire map at any given time and it's incredibly easy to run away from - skill issue

2) spewers that die from 2 autocannon rounds, 2 grenade rounds or half a mag to the face - skill issue

3)How to deal with any charger with no AT: look them straight in the eyes and let them charge you, dodge to the side, then blast their butt

With AT: shoot one of their front legs, then blast it with your primary

Bonus move: Move in close and stick any drop pod call in on them

Ending note: Just wait till the 3rd faction, it will get worse
i agree with you but i am also in the camp that this game needs to be rebalance; they should have followed the same rules left 4 dead has so that you AREN'T getting swarmed by specials and insta killed. I am all for a challenge but this game's spawns feel like a kid in creative mode on Minecraft spamming mobs at his buddies trying to build.

it would also be nice to have a better doge than a dive; this game is really fast paced and so a doge roll would be more appropriate imo. It keeps you moving and dodging.

for a game like this it feels slow n clunky even with light armor

Let me add one thing, it has nothing to do directly with the Bugs, but with the game mechanics; I wonder what were the motives behind the lack of a skill tree, both for weapons, turrets, and support weapons, apart from everything that currently doesn't work as it should, I would dare anyone to use sub-par items, when there are 3-4, maybe 5 items, between stratagems, support weapons, and grenades that make sense to use, the rest in my opinion is just a pointless mash-up to give a false idea of choice, which unfortunately doesn't really exist because of the lack of a skill tree. Who knows, maybe I'm the only one who sees it like that.
Mpreg Enjoyer Feb 16, 2024 @ 12:41pm
I think the problem is the bug breach starts right as the animation starts, when in theory it should at least take a second. As soon as you see them rear their head back it's already too late.
