I didn't have a good feel from the Machine Gun Guard Dog vs. the Laser, which cleans up mini-bugs and protects effectively against Hunters with infinite ammo. It's not as effective with large crowds at close range, which I'm assuming where the machine gun shines, but I don't know.

Casually waiting for the playerbase at large to realise that lasers work better against bots, and guns better against bugs.

Everyone's playing this like one size fits all. Its not. Choose the right tool for the right job.

so my laser gun has no effect against a horde of bugs? i suppose all those hordes ive eliminated in one clip should mail me a ladder after their visit to the hospital.

Relax bud, try playing above medium. Actually using the scythe itself sucks eggs.

Laser has more consistent dps however i would recommend using it until you can unlock shield backpack
shield backpack?

why would i use that when i can use a rocket launcher or rifle?

Because you can use a shield backpack and a railgun, and not need the rocket launcher.

i finished several missions on helldive with the laser against bugs... if there is a difference between bugs and automatons, its neglible.

The Liberator drone does like 600 dps, but reloads every 3-4 seconds, and isn't always out when you need it. The Scythe drone does like 300 dps, but rarely needs to recharge and functionally has unlimited ammo.

I prefer either the shield backpack or a heavy weapon with ammo-pack. But the drones early on do help clear out smaller waves. 4 players with drones can easily fend off most bugs until the Chargers and Titans come out, simply by running around.

Correct. The Guard Dog will blow through its ammo shooting enemies behind terrain and blasting armour it can't penetrate. Then you can't rearm it using ammo from the map, and have to eat Supplies. And it takes 2 Supply Packs to fully reload it, too.

Meanwhile, the Guard Dog Rover can fire pretty much infinitely and does about as good of a job anyway.

I have to imagine the Guard Dog is bugged and also drastically under-tuned.

I thought you could only use a pistol while using the shield no?

I liked the gunner until I tried laser. Does an incredible job of killing trash mobs, while you are focused on more serious problems. The downside is that can easily damage you. But you won't probably feel it.
I have been oneshotted by my own laser guard dog many times. :D So it can seriously damage you

Wait the gun drone has limited ammo? I mean I know it needs to land to reload but I didn't know it can actually run out. I generally prefered the laser one, when you factor in the fact the assault rifle drone has to dock every 2-3 seconds of firing the laser just seems superior.

I think the joke was that it'll kill you so fast you won't feel it. I've only been killed by my own drone once so far. It actually does a decent job of trying not to kill the one its protecting, its actually better at avoiding friendly fire than most of my team mates tend to be.

Both are great at killing civilians during escort missions. BEST weapon in game for that. Almost as good for killing teammates.

Enemies? Eh... Better than average. I have only ever used laser and it is okay. Not great or awful, just okay.

Gundog is more "controlled" and safe to use but need to be reloaded, you have only 8 reloads then it's off.

Laserdog doesn't require reload but the constant fire can easly kill you or any team mate as it doesn't care where it's shooting.
