im trying to complete one of the robot invasion missions where you have to escort civilians and ive had to bring the difficulty way down to easy mode just to cope with the robots. they just keep spawning non stop, you cant kill them fast enough

Don't try to kill them. Put sentries and use the guard dog. Run around to help the civilians. It's easy enough.

Most people don't know how to do the civilian escort misson.
You need people pressing all 3 doors ASAP.
And you need people guarding the shuttle where they go to so they don't get mowed down by the AI
