is psn required to play online?

whenever i click the link to link steam to psn it says "service is unavailable in your region" does this mean i cant play online? because it says linking account is required to play the game when i fist opened the game.

It says it's required, but that's not true. There's an option to skip linking. I did that and I'm able to play just fine.

Where you currently live might be regionbanned from something in the system (the devs tried really hard to make the game as open as possible, but some countrys have been pushing game specific laws)

i think the issue they are having is that they are regionlocked, theres been a few other people that mentioned about it aswell

No. It's not. I was worried too but it turned out it's optional. And so it should be. No idea why it claims as such on the store page.

Some people (like me) were forced into it reguardless, the skip button didnt exist on my page when i looked at others taking screenshots of it to show it off (then again i played day 1 so it mightve been a glitch, or maybe its a sony region thing?)

I tried to do it and when it asked for my phone number as verification for my age it said that my phone number wasn't good enough to verify my age.

I'd assume it's a regional thing then. Now I'm glad that I live in a country/region where this is propably not legal. Because it definitely doesn't need linking to function.
Neither does Helldivers 2 nor many other games as precedent.

It's very clear they just want data by forcing this on some.

But sorry, I wasn't aware of this.
I'm from Europe, Germany to precise, dunno if that helps in OPs case if it's indeed a regional thing.

Maybe. I started playing the day after launch.

I'm from the US, I was able to skip the linking process.

i did the linking, but my friend did not and he was from the uk so not an issue id say i think it is only there for crossplay ?

I had the region thing as well. Mine had the option to skip, but I was able to link with a VPN anyway.

Crossplay works without linking too. They literally just want data.
