Tips to fight against Gunships
The Gunships seem to be the only real problem i encounter anymore.
Sometimes there are just so many spawns that it's nearly impossible to get the hellbomb down on the tower because it always gets destroyed.
And the thing keeps pumping out Gunships so at some point there are just so many Gunships that everyone just instantly dies as soon as you stop moving.
I feel like the towers are really hard to destroy because Hellbomb is the only way to do it and it pretty hard to protect because there is nothing around the tower to hide it in.

Any real tips to deal with this other than the usuall useless "git gud" or "nah, is easy"?

1) As people have said, the best way is to have an overwatch as someone goes in to set hellbombs down. Though it's oddly rare to find that level of coordination in this game as I tend to see people running off to solo all the time, never even putting map markers down to let the others know whats happening.

2) My personal stratagy for needing to run solo is to take the autocanon support weapon. two shots to a single engine will drop a gunship, make sure you focus only on a single engine and don't change to a different one, or you are wasting ammo. If you hit every shot, you can take out 4 gunships and still have a round left over. On approaching. Use large cover as much as possible and kite the gunships around it if you can and peek around the cover to take shots. Their normal shots are nothing to really worry about, so take your shots when they are firing that burst. Only get in cover when their missles are about to fire, or suffer endless ragdoll death.

Soon as gunships are dealt with, make use of that small window to throw in a hellbomb as you're running towards the towers. If any happen to spawn as you're in the area, the towers themselves make great peeking cover to take out the new spawns. Rinse and repeat until you can get the hellbomb down. If you can call a hellbomb down before you take out the last spawn, the more time you'll have to set it off.

2a) Smoke strikes. I have never tried it, but I hear and see the logic of it, but using smoke strikes to cover the hellbomb placement as well as used to stop the gunships from seeing you. I never like to take this stratagem, as it feels too nice and a waste for most situations. But maybe it'll suit your overall playstyle?

Note on other weapons; While there are other support weapons that can take out gunships, as others have mentioned, I find the autocannon to be the most effective and quickest. Quazar has a 10+ second cooldown, so you need 40 seconds at least to deal with all 4 gunship spawns. By that time more have spawned. Anti material rifle can 2-3 shot a single engine too, but then you'd need to reload and might run out of ammo before you make it to the towers. I'd take the HMG over the AMR, as it's more ammo friendly, even if it takes a fair few shots to down a gunship. I think someone said its only 6 rounds, I'll take their word for it, as I've not used the HMG much for gunships myself.

Additional autocannon tip; Leave 1 round in the gun if you're in a long firefight and reloading might be a worry. The gun works on a clip system, like an M1 garand back in WW2. Feed 5 bullets at a time for a total of 10. Reloading just 1 clip is alot more quicker. Ideal time to reload is when you have 5 shots left, so you always have that 5 left in the gun for those 'oh ♥♥♥♥' moments'. Eeer.. I hope that made sense lol.

Only advise I really have is make sure you don't approach the gunship factories alone. 1 Helldiver setting up the bomb and the others covering at range should help with gunships agro on the bomb.

Of course, using the right weapons helps. Laser (Beam) and AutoCannon are great here.

Have one person with a suitable support weapon, AC,Laser,Spear,AMR,HMG,Commando or anything really that takes down gunships easily.
Then another person runs in plants the hellbomb arms it and simply leaves.

This whole thing will take less than a minute if done with determination and some coordination and you wont get more than a few gunships even spawning.

The key to dealing with gunship fabs is indeed speed, you don't want to give them time to spawn more ships.

Yeah i think that might be the main problem. Sometimes it's no big deal and we kill it quickly, sometimes we can't because we have to deal with other enemies or whatever and it has time to spawn a few gunships and it seems like it's hard to get back on track from there.
Even with a suitable weapon, if everyone has 3 gunships on em it becomes hard to shoot at all.

So my takeaway so far:
- Make it top priority ASAP to kill it quickly
- Bring a few suitable weapons for it
- Attack with the team with one going in for the bomb and the other covering

Yeah this is where the determination part comes in this duo I was talking about is only doing this they essentially ignore everything else (unless of course a bot is literally next to them shooting them in the face).
If you have 1-2 more guys on top of this they can keep other bots occupied.

But it is crucial that the guys on gunship fab duty won't get distracted by something else since that is the pathway to the situation you were describing. And the "gunship deathloop" certainly is not a fun thing...

Depending on if the loadout of the rest of the team looks good, I sometimes bring the shield generator specifically to shield Hellbombs. It can come in handy other times too, so it's not entirely wasted, but be warned it's not exactly the most optimal stratagem. Hence why check the team loadout.

1: stealth is your friend if you can take the turret before things go down hill everything is good.

2: rocket turrets: if I am not mistaken they can take down the gunships and having 1-2 in good positions really helps a lot.

3: talk to your team before you engage the turret. sometimes it's pointless, but it can really change things up.

4: if you are swamped with enemies you might want to invest the time to disengage and loose the tail before you try the turret.

Don't you feel dumb, playing something that's not fun? You even realize so yourself. Play something you like, there's nothing rewarding about headbutting the wall in a dead game.

LC, HMG, or AC to the side engines will put them down quickly. Railgun will one-shot to the 'head'. Take out all the gunships before you go for the hellbomb. If you're unable to kill the gunships, that tells you that you either have the wrong weapons, or you need to work on your aim. Under normal circumstances, it should be reasonably easy to take the gunships down, then go for the hellbomb once the skies are clear.

If you need an extra gun, the rocket and auto-cannon sentries are pretty good at shooting down gunships, too.

I like the game, never said something else ^^ just asking for help with parts i'm struggling with you know, the thing people used forums for before people started just whining all the time.
And everybody was really friendly and helpful so far, i'm kinda impressed. So maybe you better go play your alive games or whatever.

it's not *that* bad to kill with a hellbomb but they should really just let us drop a 500 on it like most other structures.

The gunship fabricators have a wall around it, use it to your advantage and call in a hellbomb there. It severely limits the angles they can attack it from and only their missiles have any chance of destroying it so the window of actually attacking it effectively is fairly low.

Autocannon turret.
Rocket turret.

Autocannon support weapon, 2 shots to the engines.
Spear support weapon.

Scorcher primary, shoot the middle, not the engines.

As other have said and I agree, 1 person goes in to get hellbomb, others stay back to pop the gunships as they come out of the fabricator.

If you get overwhelmed, retreat, regroup and try again. (runaway)

Enemies will usually go for a turret or pod before coming for you.
You can even use supply pods etc to bait them and draw them away.
