transmog is mostly an RPG mechanic, this is not an RPG.
I don't even care that much, but you're claiming that most games have this and the devs are just being bastards not giving it as an option.
Both come at a bit of a cost. There is no perfect solution to everything, and there never will be. Some like the set appearances, some would like a mix, and some (probably most) would like a transmog system.
Now you are stuck with either Drips or functions...or until they make a perfect one to sell you in super store lol.
So it's nice I can have a good armor set while still having fashion as well. Transmog should be a thing.
Aesthetics used to mean something, in the sense that many items had unique appearances that made them identifiable.
At one point items stopped being unique for the (vastly) most part, and were reduced to stat sticks.
From then on, it made no more sense to have fixed appearances (because itendification was now worthless). At that point it made more sense to let people recycle older aesthetics they liked instead of making those items totally worthless.
I myself did "trasmo runs" to get some older tier pieces, for instance. It makes expired content (in both items and dungeons) relevant again.
In HD2 the whole armor system is stupidly worthless. Every cape and helmet means zilch and the armors are only worth their passives.
There is no reason at all to lock aesthetics to anything, because nothing really means anything in the first place.
As it stands I have 0 reasons to acquire any armor, because I have 0 reasons to move from the medium democracy saves armor from the basic warbond. If any I might have some interest in a light armor with the same passive.
This means I will not care for any other armor in the game EVER.
If I could change the appearance to something else, I might be interested in getting/buying some armor I like the looks of.
It's that simple, and it really has no drawbacks.
I don't particularly care because I haven't liked any armor so far enough to care, they all seem generic and bland, I'd probably still use the black and gold "somewhat warhammery" one that I use.
But overall the system makes sense for both the players and the developers point of interest. It's not by chance that became so popular and almost a standard of customization now.
I find it weird that they would oppose something like this, but it seems they don't want to give even color palettes so it seems we're never gonna have anything interesting on the aesthetics front. Maybe they just want to manifcature a "expendable troops" feeling, but I fail to see the reasoning since they sell copycat armors that differ in looks only.
It's probably just greed and laziness. Why spend effort in creating a system that might reduce sales on the SC store.
