No transmog confirmed
On their twitter, Pilestedt confirmed there would be no transmog for what is possibly one of the most petty reasons I have seen for anything thus far, the reason being that "it will not work like how it looks", right after adding a giant set of heavy armor with a huge collar and giving it the fortified perk rather than something which actually sort of fits its appearance, perhaps like extra padding??? I hope there are no armors you like the look of but which are functionally useless, I know I sure do, the last armor you get in the previous battle pass looked very cool to me, but 95% arc resistance is blatantly useless, so there will never be any reason to take this armor, but oh man at least it somehow looks like armor which resists electricity better than others somehow, it really adds to the gameplay to wear stuff you don't even like the look of for the sake of it's stats.

That reason is total BS. the REAL reason is that they want you to buy all of the future armor sets. I mean, there's already a number of sets that have identical stats but look different, right? Those are basically transmogs as-is.

Also on his analogy of the apple tasting like bacon. Who cares that someone else made their apple taste like bacon.
Apparently wanting the ability to look how you please is an opinion in the "minority" aswell, so they should really just remove helmets and capes since they are just cosmetic.

In all seriousness, yes, who actually cares if my armor has fortified or extra padding? I am the only one who will notice the affect.

transmog is mostly an RPG mechanic, this is not an RPG.

I don't even care that much, but you're claiming that most games have this and the devs are just being bastards not giving it as an option.

This is the first thing I've heard from him that actually disappointed me.

If the CEO is so hellbent on realism why doesn't he apply the same logic to helmets then? All the helmets, regardless of how much protection they SHOULD provide based on how they look, have the same armor stat

Eh, idk what their "true" reason is, but there is logic behind set appearances in video games that have armor sets. MMORPGs are an example of this. Back in the mmo prime days well over 10-15 years ago, it was not yet common to have transmog, and there was a charm in seeing the visuals attached to the stats.

Both come at a bit of a cost. There is no perfect solution to everything, and there never will be. Some like the set appearances, some would like a mix, and some (probably most) would like a transmog system.

Like a lot of other things in this game they'd probably end up breaking it somehow and it'd be bugged to all hell and it'd take them months to even attempt to fix it.

Good. Currently you need to consider both the looks and the perk of the armor. If you could transmog then you just pick the meta perk and everything else becomes irrelevant.

Very nice of them isn't it?
Now you are stuck with either Drips or functions...or until they make a perfect one to sell you in super store lol.

Just a color palette should be a thing, but if you can't/don't want to design it, just say it, without bs excuse that it doesn't make sense. And how single biome planet, where life like bugs can survive have sense? I always hated those Star Wars-like planet types with just a single biome, yet with cities and life. Lazy design.

I'm in the minority of this but most of the time your armor is covered in blood so your don't even see what you look like. You can only tell by your ending emote.

Armor matters very heavily in something like Monster Hunter, but it's something that has been available for a while now. Some of the best armors just look ugly. That's why they allow layered armors, you just have to work for it and earn them like everything else.

So it's nice I can have a good armor set while still having fashion as well. Transmog should be a thing.

The MMORPG point explains both why the whole "transmog" idea came about and why it makes sense.

Aesthetics used to mean something, in the sense that many items had unique appearances that made them identifiable.
At one point items stopped being unique for the (vastly) most part, and were reduced to stat sticks.
From then on, it made no more sense to have fixed appearances (because itendification was now worthless). At that point it made more sense to let people recycle older aesthetics they liked instead of making those items totally worthless.

I myself did "trasmo runs" to get some older tier pieces, for instance. It makes expired content (in both items and dungeons) relevant again.

In HD2 the whole armor system is stupidly worthless. Every cape and helmet means zilch and the armors are only worth their passives.
There is no reason at all to lock aesthetics to anything, because nothing really means anything in the first place.
As it stands I have 0 reasons to acquire any armor, because I have 0 reasons to move from the medium democracy saves armor from the basic warbond. If any I might have some interest in a light armor with the same passive.
This means I will not care for any other armor in the game EVER.

If I could change the appearance to something else, I might be interested in getting/buying some armor I like the looks of.

It's that simple, and it really has no drawbacks.

I don't particularly care because I haven't liked any armor so far enough to care, they all seem generic and bland, I'd probably still use the black and gold "somewhat warhammery" one that I use.

But overall the system makes sense for both the players and the developers point of interest. It's not by chance that became so popular and almost a standard of customization now.

I find it weird that they would oppose something like this, but it seems they don't want to give even color palettes so it seems we're never gonna have anything interesting on the aesthetics front. Maybe they just want to manifcature a "expendable troops" feeling, but I fail to see the reasoning since they sell copycat armors that differ in looks only.

It's probably just greed and laziness. Why spend effort in creating a system that might reduce sales on the SC store.
