Using that all the time, especially when a temporary defense is needed. A valuable moment of reprive if you can afford it, for e.g. setting up a Hellbomb while under fire.
Since it takes up the same number of slots as a personal shield...most people are going to opt for that since it gives other bonuses and doesn't limit you to a tiny area.
There isn't anything necessarily wrong with bringing one for the team, in fact it makes you a pretty nice guy. It's just that the big shield has drawbacks that make it less desirable than maybe it could be.
Just a few of it's downsides, not to knock it just to be aware:
It blocks your shots too from the wrong angle.
The generator can be destroyed by team fire (stepping on it with a mech, turrets, explosions).
The shield doesn't warn you very well when it's going to fail, making it's protection a bit unpredictable.
The enemy can physically pass through it, and if that happens you are probably screwed.
It's area of effect, to be perfectly honest, simply isn't big enough. Especially for turrets or guard dogs.
9 times out of 10 it is better to be on offense and kill the enemy, because dead enemy does no damage.
and if you really need something defensive its likely there are better options... perhaps this thing can kinda protect sentries for a bit, but its timer is really short.
Also i wish it looked cooler, its not visually appealing. The bubble shield from halo is cooler looking. They should of went with like a clear or blue looking Sphere that last like 45 seconds- 1 min or something.
All in all its okay not great
For a long time i had my go to load-outs. But i've been experimenting a lot more recently.
Stratagems like this one are a good argument for having more slots, but some of them are limited to taking certain kinds of thing. If it weren't competing with infinitely more useful stratagems I might bother with it.
If you gonna pick one turrets strats, then Mortar for bots or AC/EMS for bugs is just a much better choice.
Or better yet, don't use turrets and just run Support weapon (+ backpack) + 2-3 offensive strats instead so you don't have to care about your turrets getting blown up and always be on the move.
