The Kernel Anti-Cheat (APEX Hack) Fiasco

Now with the Apex hack going on, I randomly found out HD2 also has Kernel level anti-cheat....

I didn't know HD2 had Kernel Level anti-cheat, they don't even warn you for it. I refuse to play ANY games with Kernel access (hence why i quit League after they introduced their awefull anti-cheat).

Wish the devs would warn people about Kernel level access of their anti-cheat, seems like i'm quitting this game or have to find a workout around like using a second PC to run it.....

THEY HAVE TO REMOVE THIS!
It doesn't even stop cheaters ♥♥♥♥♥, and we're all now at risk when playing. It's just a matter of time before some dude figures it out.....

For those who don't know:
Kernel level access means that the anti-cheat software has access on a software and hardware level of your machine. Meaning if a hacker can get access to it, he has access to EVERYTHING on your computer.

There is no NEED for kernel level anti-cheat, it doesn't stop cheaters. It should not be a standard practice. And as gamers we shouldn't have to accept having our machines be vulnerable to hackers.

If you make excuses for this, you're probably either a bad player or a fanboy.

I feel ya brother but you might wanna look up just how many games have kernel level anti cheats. In fact taking a look at your profile, you have 600 hours on War Thunder. Guess what? War Thunder uses EAC, the same exact one Apex uses lol

Nor did he inform himself about what actually happened with Apex. The RCE was most likely performed using some vulnerability in the Source engine that Apex is built on. Valve have historically been slacking with security fixes for Source, so this is not a surprise.

What do you think DRM is? Denuvo is literally kernel-level as are many others.

While I don't agree with overly intrusive anticheat EAC already said there's no issue with EAC. As there are real and severe legal consequences for them lying, and the lack of statement from APEX, we can likely assume it's a problem with Apex's engine, not EAC.

Every anti-cheat that is not kernel-level is worthless, and I honestly don't know any that are not kernel-level for this reason. There are anti-cheats that run only when you play the game (EAC) and there are ones that literally sit in memory 24/7 like real malware (Vanguard).

The reason for this is simple - many cheats run at kernel-level, and some run even lower than that.

Regarding DRM, maybe 5 years ago DRM was just some encryption and phoning home to a sever, but since then there's been a massive push for kernel-level DRM. Does it work in preventing piracy? No. Does it look cool on the marketing slides? Yes.

Implying we can trust what they said just because they said it? The verdict isn't out yet, I wouldnt give EAC the shadow of a doubt.
