Scorcher pretty much does the exact same job but better anyway. Even if it runs out of ammo in about ten seconds.
Yes, I have successfully substituted it for the Sickle and it is now a very useful killing tool. It kills time on the shelf until the balancing department remembers weapons have to be fun to use AND useful for people to include them in their loadout.
Trying to wrangle a potato cannon that needs reloading every 5 seconds is about as fun as eating a barbed wire sandwich.
Aim for the head - one shots devastators there.
For scout striders you need about ~5 shots to the top leg joint to break the leg, which isn't ideal but can be made to work.
Vs bugs it takes out bile spewers very nicely, as well as things like brood commanders.
Vs trash you'll want to just be very deliberate with your firing and mind the sway - it isn't the best in these situations, but can contribute at least.
Honestly it's hard to use, but with patience and skill it can work pretty well. I do think it could use a bit of a buff to its ammo capacity though (20 instead of 15 rounds or some extra magazines with a faster reload would be nice).
Don't expect to one tap the dual chainsword guys (marauders?)
centre mass on trash bots
Face on spewers/warriors/brood/any trash you can
IMO it doesn't feel like it's pumping out what the stat sheet is claiming, also I've seen tests with guns that do less damage on stat sheet but somehow do more damage than the dominator (per bullet)
I believe the Senator pistol also claims that it does only pen light armor in stats but I have pened medium armor with it.
Just go with the slugger
This applies to a weapon that penetrates Medium Armor. If you using such a weapon and hit an enemy in an unarmored or Lightly Armored location, you deal the full damage listed. However, if you hit an enemy in a spot that has Medium Armor, you instead deal REDUCED damage.
I believe there is also perhaps a hidden armor penetration stat, because the slugger, despite saying it's Light Armor Penetration, can still penetrate Medium Armor. Or, what may be more correct, the Slugger really does penetrate Medium Armor but it incorrectly states that it's Light Armor Penetration.
I have to say, the more I play this game and try to get more resources to get all the ship upgrades, the more the game starts to annoy and frustrate me. Knowing how this is how the armor system works is.... stupid.
You could say this is more realistic, and maybe you're right.
It's a less fun experience however.
And as for the armor penetration values. What you actually need to know is the stats run from 1 to 10 so not all penetration of given word is equal. And additionally the bullets can have different penetration values than the base weapon. Which is where you get the medium penetration off the Slugger and Senator because of their ammo.
