what counts as "operation"

i played multiple quickplay matches on challenging and i cant unlock the higher difficulty finishing the missions, what do i have to put on to count as an operation? i did mutliple ones, kill 300 bugs, escort civilians idk

3 missions in a row on higher difficulties or 2 on lower. 1 on the lowest if I remember. If you look at a piece of land you can see the objectives and often times they come in a set from 1 - 3 objectives. You got to succeed every objective in order to count as an "operation". If you join a hosted match and they only play 2 of a complete set and then bail out (or you leave), you basically only did half of an operation-mission.

Plainly speaking an operation is a mission set from the Gal map. If you ignore missions in progress and quick play you'll be looking at operations. When you hit the results screen it'll show the completed mission and reward medals based on how far into the operation it is. For it to count from quick play you would need to randomly drop into the last mission of someone elses operation or stick around till you complete the last mission of that operation with the host.

look at the big glowy spots with an icon in the center. Judging from what others of saying. Quickplay locks you out of Operations, you have to input them manually. (or stay in a lobby after a quickplay)
