MARKSMAN RIFLES ARE CURRENTLY USELESS
Basic primary weapons are still unbalanced. Mainly the Marksman Rifle class as a whole is completely out classed and borderline useless. The damage may be higher damage per bullet but they are very slow firing and still only Light Armor penetrating where the Liberator Penetrator is Medium . I have tested and in this case the traits are accurate. The LibP will penetrate Hive guard front armor and the Diligence and DlgCS will deflect despite being described as a higher caliber weapon than the Liberator AND LibP. these two weapons are currently on my "never use" list. they are high skill with no comparable reward in effectiveness.

Against bugs? Yeah absolutely. Against bots though, I think they’re alright choices for low level play. The Diligence family can oneshot Devastators with a well placed shot and are good for taking the heads off of Striders if you’ve got higher ground. The AMR is also sick for bots since it can two shot Hulks.

Basic marksman at least is snappy in 3rd person (good thing too with the misaligned sights!). But yeah the damage and ammo economy is pretty dire compared to "Just bring a defender which can headshot and also mow down trash fast" vs bots, and worthless entirely vs bug town.

counter sniper is absolute garbage that will botch max zoom robo skull headshots I can then turn around and make with an auto pistol at long range. even ignoring the glacial handling that makes me, an autocannon enthusiast, cringe.

DMR are actually really good against the bots. They can technically kill devastators and everything below them, though the AMR is still the king of bot slaying.

all of this can be done and faster/better with the Liberator Penetrator. It has a higher rate of fire, has a 3rd burst fire mode if preferred, has a 30 rd mag in stead of 20/15. it can one tap most basics with one shot on weak points or a double tap anywhere and has way more versatility with the additional penetration. It can pen front armor(Medium) on Hive guards for reduced damage and does full damage on light armor.

Against bots, I run the diligence on Helldive and it works just fine. You need to pick targets when engaging work back to front on the small bots who can flare. By doing this you can consistently engage without letting them ever call for reinforcements. It can 1-2 tap most bots save for Berserkers, Hulks, and Tanks. Really when running it you want to focus on the small guys and keep an eye out for any bots who flare it's your job to kill them.

Against bugs, because most bugs can call for reinforcements and there's just so many of them that the DMR suffers a lot.

The counter sniper is really bad though its handling does not make up for the damage increase.

Good helldivers don't gaslight people into thinking the penetrator is good.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing can't even body burst small robo soldiers, and even though it does not deflect off tank or sniper tower vents all you get is realizing you wasted 4 (small) magazines of ammo for nothing and reaching for your support weapon anyways.

Tell them to use the Defender against robots, if you want them to enjoy an actually useful automatic experience against the bots.

Penetrator needs MORE effort to drop trash than the basic marksman, not less. and Assault zoom scopes just make the sway atrocious trying to do anything but treat it like a trash budget sniper rifle.

Which again, does not make marksman great. It is just another reminder that the penetrator is trash.

You're joking right? Penetrator is even more useful on bots imo. You can shoot legs of the walkers and shots on glowing bits are still one to three shots

To people saying the DMR is good on bots, try the defender, the liberator, the sickle, the scorcher, the dominator, the slugger, or honestly any other weapon. They all easily kill devastators to the head, that's not unique to the DMRs. Infact, some of the listed weapons can just kill the devastator *without* having to hit the head.


Anyway, yeah, the things are pretty wack, the extra damage doesn't mean much without the armor pen to back it up, and the slugger massively outclasses them outside of not having a good scope. Just toss on some medium armor pen and they may have some potential, that and buff the counter sniper a bit.

I made a suggestion to give the R-63 bonus significant bonus damage as long as it hits a spot where it does full damage (not explosive). The R-63CS could probably be given medium armor penetration. This would probably make the R-63CS slightly better, but would give both rifles a big buff while still keeping them differentiated from each other. Right now, they're too similar, and both pretty worthless. The only area they seem to be okayish at is on automaton missions, but probably not worth skipping over the breaker or slugger.
