The Senator.
The Senator is a revolver, presumably chambered in 44. Magnum, as of now, it currently penetrates heavy armor.
The marksman rifles, the Diligence, CS Diligence, and the Constitution, are chambered (presumably) in:
The Diligence:
a similar caliber to the Liberator, 7.62x39, 5.45x45, 5.56x45, or 223.
The CS Diligence:
7.62x51 or 7.62x54R
The Constitution:
7.62x54R or 30-06.
ALL of these calibers have more firepower than 44. Magnum, especially when you're shooting said 44. Magnum out of a gun with a 7 inch barrel at best. They should all penetrate the same amount of armor, or more.
So, one of two things is true:
The marksman rifles are underpowered, OR,
the Senator is overpowered.

They have a technology to make a black hole from a planet, so they probably don't have 21st century guns..
They could have fussion powered bullets or some ♥♥♥♥. It's a made up sci-fi for god sake.
... Either way, caveman logic dictates:
DMR boolet > pistol boolet.*
*also, not to be a Chaos Diver, but part of the game is that the helldivers are meant to be an "elite force" that are actually given subpar weapons and equipment from the past because they die and lose it so often.
this is symbolized with the MG-43 which is literally just an MG-42 torn straight from the cold dead hands of the Nazis themselves, with a red dot thrown on it.
though, to be honest whitchu, the MG-43 slaps, so maybe they're onto something.
also, on the MG-43, 8mm Mauser > 44. Magnum.

It's not big enough, but I suppose

Senator is not op, 6 shots and a long reload time, yes you could kill 2 hulks to the face, but lets be honest what is the chance that you hit all 6 shots, and how often did you see a hulk alone (D7 to D10)
If the DCS or the jar 5 could do that, then yes i would call that OP but we talk about a sidearm here
Yes. We're talking about a sidearm. That, using one cylinder, can kill three hulks, six devastators, or heavily damage a tank.
Making it better than a good portion of the primary weapons.

I'm gonna get a lot of use out of this quote.

also your character is visibly seen loading their revolver with bullets,
also the gun has audio and visual similar to that of a real revolver,
also, if it's some mystical future gun, why the hell is it a revolver in the first place,
also, I don't think you could have made a statement with more flaws if you tried.

And yet, few people pick the Revolver because it's 6 shots and while it damages large targets it doesn't let you take them out back to back and is overall inferior to a host of support and primary weapons let alone grenades that do the job better anyway.

Even it's upper ammo limit isn't very good, so people are just making stuff up to try and ask for buffs to their favored weapons.

The most amusing thing are people using real world weapons as some kind of comparison, which is just outright stupid. They aren't real guns. Last I checked I can't buy a sidearm that shoots darts that will fix my broken arm either.

Ok yeah yeah what ever but here is the thing.....

....Space Cowboy, Space Revolver, enough said.

again, not to be a Chaos Diver, but considering the mortality rate of helldivers, it's entirely possible that your mystical stim juice isn't actually healing you, it's just making you ignore the pain, similar to PCP.
that particular effect of certain narcotic drugs is why the 1911 was invented- 38. special wasn't enough to kill a spanish soldier who was high as a kite.

You can make up whatever 'head canon' you want I suppose, personally I think that's a funny take given the setting, but it's excusing a magic drug that can 'fix' a broken leg well enough to run on it for miles versus harping about a magic pistol that hits harder than you think it should. It's inconsistent.

Besides, the P-113 is a better sidearm in general if you actually want to use it to take out targets that you'd realistically want to swap to a sidearm to take out anyway. It doesn't have the damage or the penetration for actual large enemies but then those are rarely the actual threat in my view. It's the swarm of robots or bugs that usually finish people off.

In fact I think the P-113 is the only sidearm you can realistically use as a ghetto primary. I wouldn't even consider that for the Senator, and I also wouldn't consider the Senator as my best or only anti-armor solution either.

Counterargument, I like my Clint Eastwood gun doing big bang penetration damage. I just wish at least one other primary (maybe the Dominator) could as well.
Sleepy_Walker Nov 17, 2024 @ 7:09pm
In the game files the Senator is labeled as using 13x40mm FMJ, which is equivalent to .50 Smith and Wesson. .50 S&W is identical to the .50 Beowulf round and is sufficient for breaking the engines of unarmored supply trucks. Powerful rounds, but roughly equivalent to a slug shotgun if I am not mistaken (I hear the recoil is similar to a 12 gauge).

In game it can kill a tank to the rear turret or hull with 11 shots and I regularly use it to shoot down armored gunships. I personally think it is one step over the line with the AP 4 and the damage boost it got to 200 damage was sufficient to smooth many of the edges off.
