Gatling Sentry
POS only targets rocks and burns through its ammo quicker than it takes to call the damn thing in. Waste of as slot.... You want it play tested AH do it yourself, I'm not shooting rocks all day for 15 medals.
Edit: Love how most of you just assume I'm to stupid to put it on an elevated position with a clear LOS.... The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing targets and fires on mobs through solid objects.....

Pro tip. Don't throw it in between rocks.

Put it in the right spot and it really helps with bugs a lot. Just need to take out Chargers first so they aren't wasting ammo or getting squashed, and keep them away from Titans.

Sentries, place on elevated ground, always.

Why are you placing it near rocks? Place it high up and with a nice clear line of sight, silly.

If you're going for 100 kills, just go and do a civilian extraction mission but nuke the entire area so there are no prefab buildings left, and place the turret somewhere where it can see plenty of stuff. Or do a level 4-6 base defence mission and stick it on the edge of the landing pad so it can mow down bugs spawning on one side while you handle the other. Duh!

Side note: WE REALLY NEED the ability to place the strategem ball at our feet like placing a mine or C4 in other games, if you press a certain button. Make it take like 1 second to secure it in place if you have to, just...I can't bear watching it bounce off of stuff anymore when it needs to be placed just so. Gah!

So....

Because you fail to properly use something, it's a waste?

Any other game where an automated turrent magically tracks enemies through solid objects and then expends all it's ammo on said enemies, through said object and folks would be saying "it's a bug, devs fix it!" But for Helldivers 2 it seems it's an acceptable piece of game design. I can sort of forgive the lack of friend or for detection but x-ray vision is daft. Don't expect it to change any time soon though.

An exception for every rule. If you want to use the gatling/machine gun sentry as a last line of defense or a rear guard, then placing the sentry in lower ground or with lots of full line-of-sight obstructions prevents it from shooting at things until they get into a specific kill zone and that fast turn rate can be fully leveraged. I also think mortars are best in low ground/behind cover.

Sometimes you drop a 500kg and it kills 1 scav. But then sometimes (more often, hopefully), you plop it in just the right spot to nuke a hulk and its entire escort.

It's the same with turrets. Sometimes you drop one and it doesn't help at all. But then sometimes you manage to position it to wipe out 2 whole patrols. Just part of the game.

if a gatling sees an enemy, itll try to shoot at it, if that enemy decides to walk behind the rock, itll keep firing at that enemy, Not caring that it cant hit it. This is annoying sure but it just means you need to think more where you place it, try to place it in an open field or behind the enemy, if you see it try to shoot an enemy it cant, kill that enemy and it'll stop and switch targets. Its great to use if you need extra support or as a good distraction for an escape.

Gatling Sentry is just general quite bad. It has high team-kill potential, very low ammo efficiency for its cool down. I think the most you can get out of it is 40 kills or so based on its ammo capacity. Which isn't BAD. But you can also do the same with a napalm eagle strike on a bug breach, and you get 3 of those. And they get a damage buff. And an extra missile buff.

That's "fine" but the auto-cannon can do that, too, and also kill literally every enemy in the game.

If we get capacity buffs or cool down buffs to turrets later, it'll be quite good.

Sorry, but It took only 4 call-ins in a single mission to finish the task... Try to look for elevated spots or use it to sweep through a wave on an open field.

imagine using stratagem updates (via samples) to proper turret tracking (firing only when line of sight to the enemy, and cease fire when players block the way) instead of trash +50% hp or resistant to explosions / faster set-up time, blergh :steambored:

User error. When place with clear lines of sight and mindfulness of where your teammates and enemies are, they're fine.

You wanna try things like putting it at the top of stairs,
dropping it at your feet as you approach a poi and then taking the flank yourself so it will cover you,
Throw it a bit behind you when a bug breach triggers and then move 20 or so degrees to the side so it covers you and you hold the line in front of it with stagger
Try to approach poi's and objectives from a downward slope if possible and place it down before you make your final approach
The gatling sentry isnt particularly amazing, no doubt, but there are ways to get it to use its ammo effectively
I did a diff 4 bug mission and it had my hundred kills before the main objective was finished
