90% of the playerbase is gone
Maybe the weapon balance should have been good? Shouldn't have been too hard to adjust some numbers in a spreadsheet.

All time peak player base of 500,000, or only 4.2% of buyers played the game at all time peak.

Current player peak is around 100,000, or only 0.8% of buyers are playing the game at current peak.

Current player low is around 23,000, or only 0.19% of buyers are playing the game at current player lows.

Isn't that odd? Where are all the players? Why did so many people buy the game and apparently not play it?

Because they don't all play at the same time or even the same days... now a lot of them are taking a break, playing other stuff, waiting for updates, etc... nothing unusual.

Bro I said the same thing and got a huge reddit post doing all kinds of math explaining why I was a moron and clearly 12 million people are still playing 😆

As for the defense of "every game falls off after launch" sure, that's true but this game has had a much more interesting arc than most. It really only fell off due to it's own shortcomings and continuing issues/drama. Huge fumble, can't wait for a competent dev to clone it.

I am not the best with math, but i am sure 76k is not 10% of 458k.

Red Kit just launched! Can actually enjoy a game instead of feeling punished for playing it!

Derplord - I found that odd as well... 12,000,000 copies sold, yet at peak, as I have heard it, only 500,000 people played... and now the player counts are fluctuating between 30,000-100,000. So, where are the other millions of players? If the 12,000,000 copies sold is to believed, and assume current player count of around 100,000, then only 0.8% of the player base remains (or 99.2% decline, which is far worse than Blorem's original point). How does that work? Why did all those millions of people buy the game and not play it?

That math is flawed, because for it to make sense, you have to assume that it is always the same 30-100k people who play.
Lets do some math, if the game has sold 12million copy, the majority of which AH claims are on PC (I assume 90% in that case).
If it is 90%, then on PC 10.800.000 Copies were sold. 96.8% of all player who bought the game finished the tutorial.
Thats 10.454.400 player.

What Steam tracks is the average amount of player, player playing at the moment, not the concurrent players.
If one guy logs out and the next logs in, the graph wont change, because one player got replaced by another.
Now if steam would track the concurrent player amount it would be something different.
There is no save way to really calculate this as most maths are just assumptions for this case.
Also have to consider that not everyone will play every day. HD2 is a game where it is fully ok to play other games if you are bored or get burned, play something else, you can always come back later.
Plagen May 21, 2024 @ 8:59am
Well, yeah. Most stopped playing due to just moving on to other games though. You people who are overly obsessed with player numbers are kind of sad.
Dwolite May 21, 2024 @ 9:00am
Ok, so I've been having a conversation on another thread about this - the active player counts are "live" in the sense of time of day on the planet... so North America peaks at a different time of day than Europe... thus to get a true comparison to the total sales you would need to aggregate the player counts per day. And I'm not sure who to do that with the data on-hand. But the player count isn't as bad as my number suggest. And now I'm not convinced the 90% player base claim is accurate either.

There is nothing easier than to calculate things in batches of 10 with the metric system. All you'd have to do to calculate 10% of 458 is to move the decimal to the left by one. Which would mean that 10% of 458 is 45,8.

76 is almost double that. If my calculator-fu is still up to date, that's about 17%.

i DID stop playing because weapons dont feel strong anymore and its annoying to fight with them.
As soon we do get a good buff again i will once more play it im sure. But not at this state right now

Turns out successively disappointing updates kills hype, faith in the devs, and player retention.
Dwolite May 21, 2024 @ 9:07am
Cipher Esteria - yes, you are correct. I was reading the chart and interpreting the data incorrectly. I had assumed it was players per day, not players at the same time.

They are unable to revert the spawn rate that killed half of the game.
Uninstalled, looking at the falling numbers is more enjoyable.
I do believe it to be incorrect to say that 90% is gone. I don't play as much as I used to. I jump in for a handful of missions once a week. Whereas a few months ago I was in game almost every day for multiple missions.

There are other games out there to play and people have other things to do in life. I'm sure a lot of people have toned down how often they are in the game, but that doesn't mean that 90% of the player base has left.

People need to stop with the click-bait and terror tactics when posting threads. So many people are such drama queens these days. Calm down, take a breath, continue to play if you want or find something else to do.

Game is just not fun anymore. The constant nerfs and then some annoying bugs that are not fixed. The game lost momentum, and it's hard to recover from that.
