I pre-purchased this game in October because I adore the original and I was prepared to devote myself to its sequel. But this last minute almost hidden announcement of the game requiring a PS Plus account to play is very disappointing. I understand why the developers did this, Sony is publishing the game and own the franchise so they have to do what Sony demands. But at the same time I am extremely disappointed this was not disclosed earlier and that I will have to refund this.

My choice to refund is a personal one, I am not attempting to convince anyone else to either refund/not play this game. But I felt it important to inform everyone that doesn't already know (like I didn't) that in order to play this game online you WILL BE REQUIRED to have at least a PlayStation Plus Essential account. Which is $10 monthly recurring subscription in the USA. So this game will require a $10 recurring monthly subscription to play online.

For people that already have a PlayStation Plus account I'm sure this is a super 'no big deal'. But I have never owned, nor have any plans to ever own, a PlayStation system. And Sony has a TERRIBLE record of keeping user and account data safe. So I absolutely am not willing to create an account, give them my billing information, and pay them a monthly subscription. Even for this game, which breaks my heart.

I wish the best for this game and its developers. I sincerely hope that at some point in the future it no longer requires a PlayStation Plus account to access. But given that Sony owns the franchise and is publishing the game I'm sure that will never happen. I had been looking forward to playing this game for months and my excitement at its announcement was great. But I will not create a Sony account and pay them a subscription for it. I'm sorry Helldivers, you'll have to go on without me.

It doesn't though. There are two clauses

1. PSN Account Required
2. Gameplay requires internet access and paid for PlayStation®Plus membership (sold separately) for PS5®

... You need a PSN account on both platforms - a faff, but that's beside the point. However if you want to play on the PS5 you need PS+. But only on the PS5, as it says right there. These accounts are not the same thing.

This game will not require a subscription on the PC. Sony might try that one day, but today is not the day.

The susbcription is required
->FOR ALL AND EVERY PLAYTSTATION 4 and 5 USER WHO WANTS TO PLAY ONLINE <-
PERIOD. For every online PS title. Not just Helldivers 2.
PC players, even for the same games, do not need that subscription period as they dont use a Playtsation to play the game.

You need Xbox Live to play Xbox games with multiplayer, but don't need it to play Xbox games with multiplayer ON THE PC

I suppose you say that because you only play on PS, but it is a disadvantage of having PS, if you want to play online you have to pay monthly, on the other hand, on PC you just buy the game and you can play online, if you have the possibility of buying it on PC , great but if you only have a Playstation then there is nothing we can do. Maybe it was obvious that the game was going to ask you for the plus to play online, any paid PS game, you need to have Plus for the online hahaha
