Help with keeping CPU temps down?
When playing on my laptop i notice the CPU temps get really high, around 90 to 98 at times which seems to tank the performance. The issue isn't external since my laptop isn't dusty or anything and i use a cooling bases, plus its mostly HD 2 that suffers from this issues, so im curios if anyone has the same problem and has managed to fix it?

I have a i7-12700H and a RTX-3060, so i can't undervolt my CPU but im trying to use Process Lasso to maybe regulate how much my CPU is used to see if there's any improvement

I think you should try undervolting with msi afterburner. Or go to the service center and change thermal paste.

I can't undervolt because its a 12th gen CPU, and those are apparently impossible to undervolt :( At most i can disable Turbo which didn't help much either.

Im looking into changing the thermal paste though technically speaking i shouldn't have to, since this laptop is barely 1 year old. That might be the solution tho tbh

Try setting FPS limits with the Nvidia control panel. Go to "Manage 3D settings" -> "Program Settings" -> Either find/add Helldivers 2.

This. The limiter in-game is bad at it and it stresses your CPU.

Invest in a laptop cooler.

Rather than disabling the Turbo, you can set TDP/wattage limits on the processor.

Set a hard fps limit. 60 is what most people would accept. This prevents your cpu/gpu ramping up in menus or low demand areas.
Vsync will also limit your frame rate to a constant number, depending on your display.
Play on lower resolutions
Lower settings
AMD has a whole suite of options in their driver for low power usage, its called "chill mode" or something. Thats enough for most people who have no idea what they are doing. :waytohell: Im sure nivdia will have something similar in the options menu.

The game is not very demanding, its a console port lol simply limiting the frame rate to 60 will drastically drop your gpu temps because it can run triple that unrestricted. For context my typical FPS in this game is over 240....at 2k resolution...with a mid range gpu...:Nutcracker:

Already did so, doesn't seem to help much, specially since i wasn't hitting more than 60 FPS anyways (only 80s on the ship and menu)

Im not sure how i can do that, i tried using programs like Throttlestop and Intel XTU but in both of them most options for wattage and such were totally locked out

Already have one, doesn't seem to help that much in this case

I have done some tinkering on Project Lasso and gotten some better results, basically i've set the game to use all P-CPUs plus 2 E-CPUs and that seems to give me good frames most of the time (50s to 60s), though ocassionaly the frames drop rather suddenly to the 40s and then to 30-20s seemingly at random. Activating Turbo helps but i have to deactivate it shortly later since the CPU temps get high and the frames drop again. All this with fans on max. Not ideal but better than before.

I have been playing on Helldive so hopefully easier difficulties with less enemies and stuff going on should yield better frames

Mostly im not sure which config to run on process lasso, i keep popping it open mid-game to change settings. Idk if its best to have as many or as little cores as possible

High temps have been a problem for a few PC players since release. The engine is not very efficient

It's a laptop playing a CPU/GPU intensive game. The more the CPU works the hotter it gets. You can try turning down some of the CPU/GPU intensive settings.

A laptop doesn't allow the same cooling efficiency as a desktop or a console; its 10 gallons in a 3 gallon bucket.

You can try external cooling options:

The ironic thing is the game ran better at release to me lol. Ever since one of the first patches the game has performed significantly worse on my machine

Man Throttlestop, that's an old one, I didn't even know they were still updating that piece of software.

There are a few ways to limit power through XTU (which may or may not be greyed out).

There are 3 "boost" settings you may be able to fiddle with, that is Turbo Boost Short Power Max (PL2), Turbo Boost Power Max (PL1) and Turbo Boost Time Window.

PL2 governs the maximum power your processor can draw, Time Window is the time it can spend at PL2, and PL1 is realistically the normal sustained maximum power draw.

In your instance, you would likely want to reduce PL2 and/or Time Window - these two are the most common things that spike your temps.

However if Time Window is short, like less than 2 minutes, then the thing you would want to reduce is PL1.

If these things aren't open to you, you could also reduce the maximum P-Core ratio, this would artificially lower your maximum power consumption since boosting to a lower max would result in lower power consumption.

*addendum the reason why you would want to limit turbo/p-core ratio rather than disabling turbo completely is because turbo represents a massive portion of your performance, and disabling it would effectively knee cap your processor.

Thanks for the detailed anwser! My time window is 56,00 seconds by default, so im going to reduce PL1 a bit. The default is 35,000 W, so how much do you think i should reduce it? Im thinking going to 32,000 W to start with, but idk if thats too much or too little
