I'd rather bring armor with "Extra padding" than heavy armor.
You know, "Iron arm" n' all.
Fortified is good against bots if you fight instead of run, because there's lots of rockets and you engage in more ranged standoffs where having a smaller hitbox + better accuracy is valuable.
Wouldn't really be a problem if bots had more accuracy to actually land enough consecutive shots (at least through volume) to do some serious damage or bugs not just standing AFK waiting for their turn to attack. Right now any form of damage outside of one-shots is spread too thin to be of any threat.
Sorry, to clarify: heavy armor is good against bots, and the heavy armors with Fortify are especially good against bots.
The bots don't push you in melee, so you don't need speed to kite. Heavy armor's great because a lot of the time you're just sitting there having a shootout, and more durability is more useful than speed or stamina.
I wish the bots had more consistent aim. Like, sometimes I'm standing in the open and a whole drop flails around like stormtroopers, but then at the next POI John Automaton turns on aimbot and rips me apart before I can even really react.
The introduction of pre-stimming and manual ragdoll recovery removed any reason for interpretation immunity to exist.
If you get hit you will need to stim anyway. Unless your armor saves your life, damage reduction barely ever matters.
What is going to kill you is being out of position, eating a one-shot or getting ran down by Berserkers / Hulks while you're distracted. Heavy armor makes all of that more likely while making you take ages to cross the map.
It's only ever decent in low-mobility missions, like rocket defense.
Fortified is also kind of overrated. Explosion resist is OK but not something incredible these days. The recoil reduction barely matters since it only reduces vertical recoil, which is easily compensated for while standing and barely exists while prone.
It saves your life when a rocket chucks you into the open and you have no mobility while the bots pound your ragdolling ass. It gives you time to react when a rapid-firing Automaton magically turns into John Wick and starts hosing you.
Berserkers can push you, but even in heavy armor you can run away from them. They're slow and obvious and don't appear in large enough numbers to be truly threatening.
If a Hulk sneaks up on you, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.
Explosion resist is huge, especially with how buggy physics are in this game and how defenceless you are when ragdolled. The less damage the explosion that knocked you over did, the better your chances of being able to hang on until you're back in control of your character.
I didn't know that it was only vertical recoil - that sucks and they should change it.
