that's how the game works bro
- (Malevelon Creek was a community story, back before people knew about the planet regeneration)
- (even if the Malevelon Creek capes tooltips don't tell you what or why it exists)
- (how long it took for that cape to exist can tell you how far behind in development they are)
The rest of the games story is a boring blur with stories of the devs arguing about swords in space, then Joel and his gamemasters wrecking the galaxy, & Sony quietly waiting and adjusting their ToS so they can launch "Playstation BORG account assimilation 2.0"..The live story is so horribly written that it's likely they're pulling MO's out of a hat.
We get an email when opening the galactic map and that's it.. which usually points to the next pile of broken game mechanics that aren't tested and that fills the patch notes instead of content.
They have banned so many people from their Discord and yet their Discord still hard carries all of the social features missing in the game.
Discords "High Command Dispatch" is slowly getting more and more Clown awards with each post.
The discord does Feedback surveys that only last an hour or two that have a quota limit that is limited to a select timezone and only a handful of people before they're ended.
It's no wonder 2beards is taking his first chance to leave and the rest of his colleagues have their social media disabled.
Imagine not being able to understand what a video game (toy) actually is and how to use it.
If you want a story in the game? Just remember that when they tried to include a nice little story (Anniversary) the community freaked out and threw a tantrum because they couldn't understand it. Yeah.... that was just a small little note... imagine what happens when something substantial comes out.
Imagine defending filler content in a live-service game as if it's acceptable to deliver fluff instead of meaningful updates.
The issue isn’t "banking fun on the MO" it’s the expectation that a live-service model actually progresses something, whether that’s the story, gameplay mechanics, or even the sense of purpose within the game. Players want to enjoy the gameplay, but after repetitive cycles with no meaningful progress, it’s natural to expect more.
As for your "Anniversary" example, the backlash wasn’t about players not understanding the story it was about a lackluster attempt at providing one. If you’re satisfied with meaningless filler, that’s fine, but don’t dismiss others who expect Arrowhead to respect the time and investment of their player base.
It's just horrendously badly managed.
They want to pretend that the players have influence in the war but they also don't actually want your influence to mean anything significant. It's wanting to have your cake and eat it too.
You can't motivate players to play in your galactic war if in the end you're just invalidating all their effort in the galactic war at every turn and completely disregard their achievements.
Like a good DM in a D&D game, the DM should play WITH the players, not play his own fantasy world and expect the players to hop on to his imagined reality. It's a two-way street but this DM hasn't figured that out yet.
I sincerely wonder how much experience he actually has as a DM. I fear it's not much if at all and thus he's ♥♥♥♥ at it. Not his fault due to a lack of experience but still something they should address or have an actual experienced DM help him out.
can we also mention how terrible their discord focus is?
all the time second hand i hear about people talking about dev's said this, or this is upcomming or see them on youtube thumbnails, and yet the devs can't put that same information anywhere other than discord? like if you wanna give out news and stuff about the game, why not do that... i dunno where the game is?
also they do surveys? really weird again as someone who checks helldivers news on steam i've never once heard of these. why is everything discord only?
why do only discord users get any care from the devs? helldivers isnt on discord. its on steam, so put the game stuff on steam. discord tried to be a game library it failed, devs need to stop pretending that people liked discord as a game library.
oh yeah repeat the same for twitter, except why would i even have a twitter? i'm not allowed to access twitter because i don't have a twitter account, and i'm not going to make one just to view a post a month if even. twitter adds nothing, and all i ever hear is complaints about it, why would i willingly subject myself to that? any dev that focuses on twitter is actively choosing to alienate their playerbase.
