I have a friend that runs the double edge sickle + fire resistance armor loadout, and when he hears an interloper coming, he just fires into nothing a second to rev it up, then dumps into the jet. It seems to work pretty well.
If you're running inflammable - double edged sickle
Any machine gun with med pen.
Anti tank.
So many picks
ignoring the worst chaff (where its not horrible) it works for about everything
for illuminate mid and hmg work well, if you got something else for armor pen you can also use a stalwart, works good against overseers and fleshmobs
Imo the best thing to bring against the aircraft is a medium fortified/anti-explosive armor because with that you usually tank the strafing run. Yeah it will almost kill you but using a stim is better than being in bits and pieces like the rest of your team that got caught in it.
You wont always be able to take them down before they shoot you, surviving those is high value.
Only Squid element they can't kill is a landed illuminate ship, which will require at least a grenade or anti-tank airstrike. For folks starting out, the orbital precision strike is a default stratagem and can one shot squid landed ships and flesh mobs. Flesh mobs also have terrible vision, so you can stealth crawl close enough to one to lob an airstrike beacon at it. The OPS is a precision strike, which means the blast radius is also very small, so you can be as close as roughly 20m and not take any damage from the blast wave.
OPS can also be used to blow up a wall to create a travel path into walled cities (or escape route out of one).
