It's called the Rumbler and we had a mortar support weapon from the first game which was top-down/isometric view. How they'd implement it due to their "realistic" angle they tout - may not make the cut but I'd welcome it regardless anyways. I'd rather have fun over realistic.
otherwise the crossbow can with a load of training be an effective long range weapon
I didn't play HD1. But would a simple minimap aiming interface work? Would probably be fine if it was a little more zoomed by default
Imagine if you man the mortar and open the map, the fog would start to cover the map while you tried to interpret it. ;T
Well you just shift the perspective to top down while firing it lol
However I don't know if the game can support that, they would have to also implement that shift properly which likely means to much effort and won't happen lol
Alternatively though I think a small back pack 1 would be cool with no super easy aiming, maybe it uses the mini map instead with a circle highlight zone? Possibly it even fires towards ping you mark on the mini map if in range?
Then it can be loaded like other weapons from a backpack slot filled with the ammo. It's possible in a few ways lol but idk might not be worth it.
I imagine it would behave similarly how Battlefield 1 handled the Mortar Gadget they had, you had no clue where to fire it but it absolutely provided a minimap as you use it to aim where, you just had no clue where to fire it upon unless an enemy was spotted (in HD2's case, we just see them coming or sport that neat Scout armor for benefits), or just fire aimlessly Firing rapidly even made it far more inaccurate in that game. What I imagine is, if OG Mortar Support Weapon was added, this is how it would work, probably with a limited coursing of the map around your current setup position of said weapon.
The problem is if AH codes it like they code everything else, then that means it will be broken and never be fixed. Then one day they will say it's fixed in a patch, but it will actually still be broken.
