Any advice on defense missions?
I'm forced to doing a haz 5 defense mission solo because nobody wants to join my lobby.
I'm currently fighting the Illuminate, but I just can't get enough out of my stratagems to hold them off. I'm using the tesla turret to block off the gates and deal with the voteless. I have a rocket and auto-cannon to deal with the tripods and am using the HMG to break their shields and deal with overseers. So far, I do well until around the 4th rocket is launched, after which they just overwhelm me. My stratagems don't cool down fast enough to deal with the quantity of cephalopod filth I'm facing and my own weapons just can't deal with the overseers efficiently and the tripods at all.

Any advice on strategy would be greatly appreciated.

I find using a grenade launcher and hmg emplacement work well against them. Just bomb them as soon as they spawn, then use hmg to kill the flying overseers and harvesters

The Anti-Tank Placement is currently king & queen in any defense mission, if used correctly.

For Illuminates HMG placement/Scorcher does the trick well.

However, doing that kind of mission solo has you overrun too quick, even on lower levels.
On diff 5 I’d probably recommend HMG emplacement, remember you can have more than 1 down. Resupply sentries, mg sentry, napalm barrage, and probably Gatling barrage. Use the napalm and Gatling to cover any down periods your HMG has, remember the HMG can leg join harvesters, and use mg sentry constantly to help act like a 2nd person really. Resupply sentry is just a good booster to pretend you have yet another player since most other boosters won’t be helping you.

Just spam sentries.
You could use the matchmaker to just join someone else at that difficulty. Though if you're soloing it, you could just do something like HMG emplacement, gatling sentry, MG sentry, and a tesla tower, that'd deal with clearing everything out and you just focus your HMG turret on taking out the harvesters. Just having a lot of turrets around really helps make up for less people around.
Solo might be tricky.

My best tip would be to try to hold the first choke point (not the two side doors). Evn with 4 players in dif 10, we usually just hold the first choke point, it's easier than the two entrance.

I can recomand AT emplacement and recoil-less. 1 recoilless to hatch = destroyed ship. Two AT ammo to hatch = destroyed ship. That would easily halve the number of fooders that reach ground each wave.

tesla tower seems good if you hold the choke point with it. I would take orbital laser for when.if you get overwhelmed. HMG emplacement rip all squids type appart (even the harvester to the leg joint) Same with HMG turret , except it's not smart enough to kill heavesters. It still has a very short cooldown though.

So for stratagem, I would go
> orbital laser
> AT emplacement
> HMG emplacement / HMG turret
> Tesla tower
And would swich between AT and HMG (i f I took it) depending on the current need.

For weapons, ideally you want the Purifier ( from polar patriot ). It eat squids in two charged shots, stun lock and AOE. One charged shot in the middle of the voteless = 10-15 kills. And you get 105 shots before you need a ressuply.

Revolver can one tap squids to the head, or destroy harvester with 2 mags to the leg joint.

gas, impact grenade or impact flame might help you in a pinch.

did you check if youre lobby is set to private?

as for iluminids having the machine gun/flame turret helps alot
hmg placement also great
orbital napalm when there is too much
flamethrower also helps
What primaries do you have access to? If you're only on 5, I'd guess not that much. Purifier is top tier if you have it, charged shots destroy overseers and voteless. And don't just use the HMG emplacement to take down harvester shields, destroy the harvester with it, too.

Expendables (EATs, Commando) and emplacements (HMG emplacement, AT emplacement)
Avoid explosive mortar sentry. It's a common noob trap that wipes your team since the enemies break your line quickly and there's nowhere to run

Electromagnetic mortar + normal mortar is still a good combo. But I do agree, just the mortar is a bad idea all around. It has way too much range, and as soon as any fodder manage to reach near you for a single second before getting killed, you'll get a five shell volley to the face.

Make some friends, convince them to play HD2.

Been there, done that. My friends aren't online consistently enough.
no one joins probably because hardly anyone does diff 5 anymore. Try going up in difficulty.
