Lance vs Axe
I'm using the ballistic shield with the lance for terminids in diff 8 and having great success paired with explosive xbow. But I want to know if the axe is better than the lance for bugs, if you pair it with shield.

if you are able to avoid melee attacks without relying on the stun or range of the lance the axe is better

I haven't used the lance much, but I love using the axe on bugs. It can kill pretty much anything less than a charger in less than 3 swings, and it's great at chopping off the legs of hive guards and brood commanders.

Hitting legs with hatchet kills them faster?

Not sure if it's exactly faster, but it's great to slow down bigger units when you're getting surrounded. Can usually chop off a leg while backing up, and they're much less likely to catch up to you.

Cool tip thanks, ill get it when its in rotation. Love going melee when surrounded.
Lance is better vs numbers because you can effectively stun over 2+ bugs with one poke. For example, you can manage 2-3 predator stalkers with lance and no shield just fine, but try doing that with an axe and no shield and its GG. The axe is faster but no stun.

Getting back after taking a long break from diving. How do you get the axe?

Super store. You missed your chance, gotta have to wait.
"Lance", it may seem that there may be problems with crowd control, but this is not true.
During the attack, try to move the mouse to one of the sides (preferably quickly), this way you can hit multiple targets, this is in the worst case, in the best case you can chop off everyone's heads with one successful "turn" (if breakpoints allow it).

I also recommend using the "correct" perk, x2 to damage feels decent.

P.S
And the axe...

Remove the knockback and let it only interrupt (only those who can theoretically be interrupted) enemy attacks no more, then yes, maybe I would recommend it, but the current state of the axe is depressing.

And ideally, all melee weapons would work on the principle of...

Mouse1: Area attack/Crowd control

Mouse1 + Mouse2:
Aimed strike/Single target

/

Or "switch" the attack pattern to R.

For those who don't like the previous option.

Of course, you need to make each weapon feel different, but that's a completely different question.

lies, axe doesn't help u, I tired it several time, it is only good comes to small and easy target group of enemies but when it comes to range of melee to medium and tanky, the spear have it all, the axe is having length issues for it is small gimmick and doesn't provide that an actual stun, just small knockbacks and enemies can "Poise" the attack of the axe and the enemies r still able swing at ya.

It would of been great if the axe actually was medium armor penetration then ppl would of change the tune really fast but nope, just ♥♥♥♥ load of lies being great, I rather have the shock baton instead of the axe that is how bad it is rated as, it didn't deserve to be cost 250 sc, it should of been 50 sc, sorry that is too polite, 10 sc it should of really been in.

The only sadder truth the axe is garbage, I rather have the shovel that was found in the field and I just dig myself a trench for I mean ♥♥♥♥ the axe all the way. that is the top honest answer. Super Scam axe ever, all i think the dev didn't think this through about the axe well enough.

The spear that is all u need because stun and headshot is real enough, just head shot stun and if it still standing alive, u can just run away or hit and stun it again but comes to crowds of enemies, it is better to hit and run if ur out of ammo for hit and run is always good just simple gorilla warfare tactics.
Give me a meaty two hander.

Axe is amazing vs voteless, but not great vs bugs.

The length of the lance lets you hit and stun enemies before they reach you, even chargers can be killed with just the lance.

For voteless u can just flail the axe and it will meld them, for them a lance would be less practical

All melee attacks, butt strikes, etc. have an armor penetration rating of 3. With the exception of Chargers, for some reason the game allows you to damage their limbs, despite the fact that they already have armor class 4.
In short, the situation is the same as with throwing knives on release.

Yeah axe is fantastic on voteless, you can kill essentially unlimited numbers of them just by running by and kneecapping them. Only takes one hit, without their legs they will never catch up and quickly bleed out. The lance can also do that but the attack is a poke and not a swing so it's not as good on open ground.

Melee is surprisingly not as bad as one would expect, but you gotta be careful for the bile spawns and these new gloom guys that damage on death, sadly. Perhaps melee kills could somehow not trigger them exploding, since you're chopping them up, not firing ballistics or lasers at them. Or deal less damage if detected that a melee attack delivered the kill. That sounds complicated, though, admittedly, and doesn't REALLY make sense, would just be nice if that was a little less punishing for when you're loading out with melee and then get cucked by kamikaze enemies.

Melee weapons applying that knockback on things like Alpha Commanders or Overseers is frustrating. Couldn't they have forced melee weapons to have a daze rather than a 5m knockback push - or just... nothing of the sort? Especially the stun weapons, at least? Nothing better than pushing an enemy to safety which requires you to put yourself into a more dangerous position to finish the job, and/or opens the door for a full-health target to walk right into the space your initial target was just occupying. Big knockbacks work well with ranged weapons or even the "f" key melee attacks w/ ranged weapons, to give you space, but on the intended-for-melee weapons it can feel quite tedious//annoying.
