Am I the only one who feels like Helldivers 2 is stagnating?
I started playing around before the first EXO suit was introduced. And ever since Meridia turned into a black hole, I felt like the game wasn't moving anywhere. First PSN, and a lot of people blame Sony in this situation, forgetting that Arrowhead knew in advance that there would be a PSN tie-in, and blatantly left it out. Then the constant problems with balance, and debuffs. The blatant lie in the Escalation of Freedom trailer. That supposedly we will get new missions, but in the end it turned out to be additional missions + the developers in the video said that this is not all that they included in the update... But in fact it was all the content. Everything that was in the update was shown in the video. There was no hidden content. And there wasn't a lot of content in the end. Then a long construction of DSS, a lot of meaningless and boring MO that repeat each other. Disappointment from DSS, because it turned out to be underdeveloped crap, and underdeveloped crap to date and remains. Then a bunch of boring MOs again, until the update with the Iliminate. It turned out to be a breath of fresh air... For a couple weeks. Because Illuminate isn't interesting. Not complex. Their units can be counted on the fingers of your hand. Not a successful collaboration with Kill Zone. The first expeditions to Gloom that did NOT have new bugs for the first few days. And now again we're given a boring and useless MO that won't affect anything. Just kill an awful lot of enemies... Very interesting. Optimization problems that since release has only gotten worse, and now even I can feel the FPS drop. I have to lower my graphics settings just about to Steam Deck level for the FPS to be stable, even though in the past it ran fine on medium-high settings (GTX1660 TI). Crashes that have not gone anywhere. New problems with freezing galactic warfare. No content. Galactic War is useless and does not affect anything, no matter how much the developers tell us otherwise. And to any questions from the community regarding content, the developers have the same answers: “It's technically difficult/impossible/not in the plans/interesting idea, we'll discuss it, but probably no”. Yeah, yeah, we get it, making games is hard, that's the revelation. Are you going to develop the game in any way?

I have nothing else to do in Helldivers except farming levels to max, which is pointless, or farming super credits to buy new armor or future warbounds. Which is boring. I log into the game now only to look at the description of a new pointless MO that won't affect anything, and immediately log out afterward.

I don't feel like the game is evolving. Sometimes it makes attempts at it, but immediately the devs create new problems and bugs and then go silent for months and nothing happens. I don't feel like Helldivers has any long term future if the developers continue at this pace.

Brother, we are not abandoned. We are being tested in the fires of democracy! If we are suffering, it is only because we are not patriotic enough. Now grab your rifle, report to your democratic officer, and embrace the grind for LIBERTY!

I think this is a development issue they can't keep up with the "story" since all our battles are canon. They’re kind of running out of things to throw at us.
No, its pretty boring.
I played like 3 months after release, then made a roughly 8 months pause, started again end of december and had like 5 Warbonds to unlock and now im done without even playing a lot.
The galactic war is pretty boring and samey, no real rewards, missions still are samey, the events dont feel really special besides the addition of the Gloom, although lets face it, it was just a rough makeover of existing enemies and more fog in a game that already had too much of that anyway.
The Illuminates are an awful faction to play against too.

The game needs a far more involved and dynamic Galactic War, with more goals that actually matter in the broader scale and unlock new and fun stuff.
But more importantly it needs more engaging mechanics to keep people hooked and engage with the gameplay loop.
Like a transmog station, weapon attackments or colouring, stealth equip, healing/medic gadgets.

I do the same. I log into it to see what happened, log out again unimpressed for roughly a month now.
Will go on a 8 month pause again i guess and come back when something major has been added.

Like how fun would it be to have an event with a mission type that throws two teams into a map or has every Helldiver drop on its own point independently?
Missions without any HUD or stratagem clones (you can equip the same several times).

That would be something to ge me back.

i just hop on to grind out the newest warbond, play it some more if i like it, and then wait for the next thing

ive grown to somewhat dislike the main gameplay loop because its been stripped of any challenge by FUNdivers kicking and screaming until they got what they wanted. despite this, after the complete declawing of automatons, SHOCKER! the people who never wanted to fight automatons still aren't fighting automatons! It just makes the game boring for those of us who did like fighting them

nahh, we're all still here, waiting to launch for new stuff, most players know there's more to come

TLDR; We are basically in filler episodes of an anime that has just begun as they continue to dev new features and content. When the main missions start releasing again to progress the war, you can also expect more content that we will burn through in about a week.

The game is still growing and the galactic war is evolving - the problem isn't the content or lack there of but that we are finishing it faster than they can release it.

Their is a bunch of content that hasn't been released yet showcased by the helldivers leaks subreddit (They are pretty on point with the leaks and even the story board from back when it released) like the weapon upgrade system where you can mod in parts like sights, grips, and even the camo.

We are also missing sub factions for the illuminate. The terminids have 2 evolution's so far and the bots have the jet pack brigade and I would count on them having a secondary faction as well.

We need a dynamic war not to continue unlocking new weapons or feel a sense of progress in eking out more damage from our kits, but to fight new and/or modded enemies that forces divers to change tactics during missions.

After a few missions you generally get the gist of how that faction works and what you need to cover the situations that you might run into with how you choose to play. The sub-factions they implemented is a genius move especially when they only needed to change one enemy to force divers to drastically change tactics (Not just weapons but actual tactics like when to run, what to look out for, should that patrol be avoided?, etc).

I think with enough of these unique modifiers for each faction at random coupled with a large pool of community objectives (ex: Choose between Recon Obj to see all enemy modifiers on a planet / faction or Take out the planet producing "improved" factory striders and if divers fail, those striders stay in place until we have another opportunity to take it out) that could be interrupted by the GM when they are ready to progress the war would breathe new life into the galaxy. They could also add mid mission modifiers where after an event (or series of events) different enemy types will appear with the patrols and spawns moving forward (ex: you completed a lidar station obj? sick! since you can now see all map obj, here are some invis enemies or since we know you know where our bases are, we are going overrun your position with enemies everytime a diver is sighted and leave the bases relatively unguarded)

The game is aimless without any direction. Seemingly hopes of new content on the horizon to continue playing. Without really knowing if what's coming even worth the effort.

Pilestedt lost the fight against his own dev team and jumped ship. Be ready for more lackluster war bonds and poor balancing.
I wasn't around for the "Blatant lie" in the "Escalation of freedom" trailer, what was that about?

400+ hours and counting, still enjoying just as much as I ever did. Is the game perfect? Hell no, but for myself and many other people, it's still super fun and there are big things on the horizon. The fact that people enjoy this game enough to constantly despair about how it may or may not be stagnating says a lot about how good it actually is.
