but using the same gun for most of enemies might be boring.
this is my scorcher build btw:
supply pack+eat17+commando+(put whatever u want)
I tried to experiment different build, using different gun, but alas, didn't work for me, Scorcher + Supply pack combo is still the best combo for me against bug, I didnt need Supply pack against Illuminates and Bots though.
I even modded it to be DC-15 Blaster Carbine and has the sound effect too! It's more interesting that way :)
-Is one-handed
-Can easily clear groups of small-medium enemies
-Two shots spewers, devastators, rocket striders and overseers
-Three shots alpha brood commanders
-Can destroy bug holes, fabricators, warpships and illuminate teslas
-Can take down gunships, although since it is a projectile with bullet drop it can be tricky to hit them
-For me, never had a problem with it's ammo economy
-Weakness as far as I know include not being able to shoot at close range, might sometimes struggle hitting fast enemies like hunters and elevated overseers, and not efficient at taking down illuminate shields
The scorcher is still one of my favorite guns and is a pretty good weapon. i just feel that the crossbow has more uses than it.
I think I'd be hard pressed to say that the scorcher is better than the purifier, simply because the purifier has a charge mechanic to make it even better. All you trade for that is the initial AoE being smaller and a slightly smaller magazine.
I do however use the scorcher on a regular basis.
I used to like Purifier against bugs, but 2 problems arise:
- It's charge shot is awesome, but it needs 1 sec of charge time, and during such moment , can be crucial, especially when you are surrounded by bugs from every direction, it should be used only when you are far from enemies.
- it fares poorly against Stalker and hunters, especially Stalkers, and I actually changed my mind to not use purifier because of the Gloom variant of stalker attacking me en masse while I am using purifier. It's not that effective against those fast , pesky insect, you need to drain almost full clip to kill one, and it's reload time isn't the fastest either, so you are more likely swarmed by stalkers and hunters while you are still reloading.
If it wasn't because of the Stalkers and gloom variant, I might still use purifier against bugs by now.
Okay, but that's a specific enemy variant and only one of the factions. I'm not saying the purifier is perfect - I'm saying it arguably has more versatility and use cases than the scorcher because of the charge up mechanic while maintaining the same base damage (with weaker base AoE).
*edit* - Also, exaggeration isn't necessary. Even if you were absolutely worst case scenario hitting the stalker in the body and not the weakspot of the head, you'd be doing 75/shot and the body only has 650hp = 9 shots, which is a little over half the magazine of the purifier.
*edit edit* - Again also just to be clear - I don't think the scorcher or purifier is the best weapon to bring vs bugs just because of the propensity of things to get in your face (by leaping for example) which causes you to take damage from the AoE. I much prefer something like the sickle or a shotgun when dealing with the Terminids, but that's entirely a playstyle preference.
Sure it's not plasma but it's a respectable enough ar with medium pen and generous reloads.
The stun baton is namely for bugs but nobody expects me to whip this out and murder stalkers or chargers with it.
I'd rather have this than a pistol on bugs just because I can make that baton work
If you combine it with the siege armor (quick reload + More Ammo) it really makes the crossbow shine.
The purifier is my favorite primary vs the Illuminate, but against bots and bugs, I think that the crossbow is better. Provides a pretty similar use case, plus it can close down holes/fabricators.
It's also one handed so you can use it with a riot shield or the directional shield, and use it while carrying black-box or egg for example.
That's any weapon that uses ammo, siege ready is the best perk in the game.
One of the best primary, if not, THE best primary.

That would be the crossbow. By a gigantic margin.
I would just to clarify that the purifier isn't precisely an upgrade from the scorcher for one reason only and that's the base AoE damage.
The scorcher has the same base and durable damage 100/50, but also does 100 AoE per shot, the purifier does 100/50 but only 37 AoE per shot.
If you're not planning to use the charge function of the purifier, the scorcher is superior.
I know a lot of people would say 'why on earth wouldn't you use the charge function?' but notably Terminids especially can make moving slow and charging an issue.
I still think the purifier is the superior weapon, but it's an important distinction to make.
