There's been little leaks and stuff devs have vaguely mentioned that suggest some changes to our gear and ships, so it's pretty likely
They've also added new ship modules before.
I think if we do get any new ship modules it'll be pretty minor, because these are permanent passive bonuses and it gets really hard to actually balance that if you have too many bonuses stacking up.
When they add more vehicles I wouldn't be suprised if we get a new set of vehicle themed ship module upgrades but we only have mechs and the FRV right now so it wouldn't really be worth a whole set of modules yet.
The upgrade is so situation and niche that if it's not because I have nothing else to use samples on, I probably won't pick it.

It would finally means something to be a veteran.
spend 20 common samples = 5% damage boost to all weapons except grenades
spend 20 rare samples = 10% damage boost to all weapons except grenades
spend 10 super samples = 15% damage boost on an element of your choice (fire, electric, poison, explosion)
I was thinking more like:
- Your weapons' fire pull less attention from enemy patrols.
- You've better recoil control
- Your orbital cds are lowered further.
