So figuring the car
So I have taken some time to take some notes about the car's handling to try and figure out it's issues. If others have input, I'd love to see some commentary regarding the vehicle's proper useage.

The Scout vehicle is a fun addition to the game, though I believe the cool down is yet again too long for this game. That said, I have observed things.

Gravity and Weight:

The Vehicle's center of gravity is placed towards the front, centered behind the front wheels between the Driver and Front Side Passenger. What this is doing is when taking ramps, the vehicle has a really bad tendancy to flip. Instead of maintaining momentum, this is a sort of awful feel for how this kind of vehicle should be driving. The Humvee comes to mind with a more central Center of Mass.

Driving:
This game has 2 modes of driving the scout car. The first is the Automatic, which is not capable of sensing when you are flooring or wanting to thrum the engine at a steady rate. However, there is a solution.

The Shift Key. Specifically, the Shift key allows you to pre shift the vehicle to Gear 1 and 2. The reason this matters is because Gear 1 is surprisingly capable of taking rough terrain when not trying to ramp terrain. When turning, it is also the most stable and not prone to spinning the vehicle out. When taking shift Gear 2, this is where the vehicle's speed and propensity to spin out are coming from. Managing between gear 1 and 2 allowed me a lot of control when it came to handling terrain and navigation. I suggest getting a feel for these gears as it can be a huge force multiplier if we nail the vehicle's functions.

Reversing however is dangerous. This will disengage the Gear shift, so while you are reversing, remember to shift from Drive to Gear 1 until you have total vehicle control.

The Rear Gun:

The vehicle's movements are going to be the hard part for the gunner. I am noticing many of my passengers are not aware of the HMG's specific peculiarities. Simply put, firing it as is causes a huge amount of ammo loss and missed shots.

Pro tip: Set the gun's firing speed to 450 RPM. This dramatically improves the accuracy of the gun.

Wheels:

I hate when these pop. But if you lose your wheels, find a safe spot to pop the remaining tire. This will improve the handling until such time as Arrowhead actually makes vehicle repair and rearm a thing, something they have no excuse for with the scout car imo.

Curious other's thoughts.

Kinda useless on most maps for the cost of a stratagem slot. Not complaining about the free ones standing next to SAM sites on urban areas.

I love the FRV and I just stick to 1st Gear. It goes plenty fast, I don't have issues with it spinning out (but I do have some issues with it not turning ENOUGH), and when you have experienced teammates they are less likely to accidentally shoot each other.

If anything, the only issue I have is the weird camera angles when you are riding in the FRV. I've had moments where the whole FRV is covering the screen, and hitting ramps and bouncing around make seeing anything absolutely insane.

Years of being the designated Warthog driver prepared me for this vehicle.

what even is the point of the second gear when you can just swap between D and 1?
ZiggyDeath Dec 26, 2024 @ 7:52pm
Gear 1 has a top speed of ~30mph, 2 is ~50mph and D is ~65mph.

All I have to say regarding tips and tricks with the FRV are documented here:

Overall it's a very useful tool for making extra time, either for the time EXP bonus or to free up time to look for samples and SC. It's a strange choice, though, as light and fast cars are not my first recommendation to new drivers.

honestly the car has made grabbing side objectives and Points of Interest so much easier for my group. you don't even need to swap it off of automatic, all you really need to do is let off the gas when you're turning so the car doesn't spin out.

It's useless only if you are bad at driving.

It opens up a range of tactics that were not viable before:
You can kite swarms on bug planets since nothing can really catch up to you in a car.
You can use heavy armor on bot planets with less impact on your mobility.
You can collect lost samples or redeploy side-objective team much faster.
You can cosiderably speed up larvae and SSSD deliveries.

And in addition to the vehicle itself you get a mobile HMG emplacement which is really cool on maps with lots of aerial targets. So it's actually 2 cool stratagems for the price of one.
I just hope they won't limit the amount per mission, or will add an option to fix and rearm it.

I can manage it well enough, I just wish the suspension had some damping.

Sssd deliver ? I did the black box in a squid mission and the damn thing cant go inside with you , even droping it in the HMG box , the damn thing have not colission at all with the car .

I love driving this thing, sometimes some whacky ♥♥♥♥ happens but for the most part I keep her steady on all sorts of terrain just by plotting paths ahead and taking things slow when they need to go slow.

The time you save is insane. The only thing h olding it back from being S tier for every drop is other people blowing it up or driving it poorly lmao. The guy in the back passenger seat loves to blow the whole car up with an explosive crossbow or something.

The firendly fire is just funny though. Learning curve. People will eventually learn to not gun down the passengers while they are poking out the windows, on the HMG t urret. And will know to only fire explosives from the inside of the vehicle in relation to the target, like a bug hole, not the outside. Cos youll hit the car or the other passenger lmao.

Yeah my friend told me that you can go in gear 1 for better grip but oh my god the noise xD

Pelican drops it in weird places too. Got no qualms with dropping the fing thing directly on my head, but will avoid landing on enemies and other structures to the point where I've seen pelican land the car on a building's roof.
Galahad Dec 28, 2024 @ 7:26am
Does make me feel a bit 'naked' as far as my build is concerned though. I was playing with a friend last night and bringing the car + a guard dog for him made me feel weird xD like a packhorse build rather than a combat build.

But that's fine ina group. If anything I'd like to see more of that.
Bum Ghost Dec 28, 2024 @ 7:58am
only change they really need to make to the car is how the passengers sit when hanging out the windows

i feel they deliberately made the divers pop their head out of the window directly at barrel level.
