Upgrade, cpu or GPU first
Hello folks,
I currently play on helldivers 2 with a 2070 super and Ryzen 7 3800x, and i'm only able to play on a smooth 60fps in 2k, using lossless scaling with framegen on. Despite this little software is abolutely fabulous, i will upgrade my pc with a 4070 super and a New Ryzen cpu, this next months. I can't afford the twos at the same time so i was wondering if it'll be better to upgrade my cpu first or my gpu. I know that there will be bottlneck for a while, but do you think that if i buy first a New Ryzen 7 it will increase my global performances waiting for my new GPU..? I know that hd 2 is quite demanding on the cpu.. thanks for your answers, and sorry for my english.. (i'm french)

No doubt CPU yes.

bad answers

the good answer is : monitor your CPU and GPU load and you will know

seems you may use nvidia application for this
or better msi afterburner

Yes to both:steamsad:

I would upgrade the gpu first, but do not buy a 4070, or any other nvidia gpu. Buy a 7800xt or wait for new amd gpus and Intel's b770 and b780 gpus. I currently have 7800xt and it pairs really well with a Ryzen 7600. I get 70 - 80 fps during missions on 1440p ultra wide on high settings.

GPU, but it can lead to CPU bottleneck.

When replacing CPU its important to look at your motherboard to ensure the new CPU can actually fit on it. When I went from i5 4590 to Ryzen5 2600 it was more than just a new CPU. It required a new motherboard and new RAM.

So check the motherboard first, is it compatible with the new CPU or does it need changing aswell? GPU's generally fit in every PC since its all PCI-E slot.

I know that AMD gpus are more powerful regarding to the price but i am in love with ray-path tracing.. and in a hurry to comeback in night city with all maxed up 4k, even with framegen on

Thks for the advice too, i will check that when i'll be back from my family

CPU 100% this game gets limited by 2-3 Threads if any of those reach even remotely 80-85% you hit 100% hundreds of times in NS range.
also youd be surprised even when a GPU is 100% ( and not horribly under powered lets say a 6800XT / 3080 ) how much gains they get with a faster CPU cause in NS range they are less idling.

You mean that this game only works on 2 or 3 threads? I assume it comes from the old engine (quite georgous by the way)

That's fair enough, but I still wouldn't buy the 4070 right now. Nvidia's 50 series is releasing this year and Intel's b770 and b780 are releasing this year too. If the b770 and b780 are anything like the b580, they'll have the price to performance of amd while also being good at raytracing, not as good as nvidia but far better than amd.

@pope francis Lamborghini
I thought that Intel GPU would be kind of "crap" , regarding what you say i'll check next generation for both Intel and nvidia then! When do you think the 5070 or 60 will be released, end of 2025?
Thanks for your answers folks, i'll first buy the cpu first :)
