If you temporarily mangled your hand, chill. Everything is going to be frustrating until it gets better. Raging at the devs isn't going to make it heal any faster or the situation any more comfortable.
If this is a permanent condition, there are tons of options available for you in case the devs don't make this change. Like using a mouse with a side numpad to control the vehicle, or just accepting that you'll have to juggle between KB and mouse to drive/shoot. People with disabilities have to purchase specialist equipment if they don't want to suffer from their reduced capacities, it's just a fact of life sadly, but tons of people have designed gaming gear for the disabled so that's the good news.
I have a fancy trackball with a ton of buttons for all of the reasons you mentioned. It's still insanely frustrating to steer via button mashing even if it's with my good hand. It converts fun into stress.
