Solo against Illuminate is impossible.

When I play solo I play difficulty 5 or 6, but against the squids is impossible. There are way too many enemies, jetpack overseers and tripods are WAY too tanky, and patrol spawns happen literally in front of you. I know people will say it's a team game, but I can play against the other 2 factions alone with some difficulty. The fact that one faction is impossible to have a reasonable chance of completing the mission is frustrating.

It's possible but a bit harder than on other factions.
Just remember to focus down the objectives and only kill enemies when its necessary. If you try to clear out every zombie horde you will fail. Don't let them bog you down. Sometimes you will need to run, hell, on D10 you probably do more running and sneaking then fighting.

I think it was just an accident that the 2 other factions could be solo'd, I really don't think the developers intended for their game to be played this way.

you only really need to kill the overseer and drone. The unsupervised hordes can be dodged through in light armor. And the tripods are slow as hell, easy to make them lose track of you.

Focus on raiding objectives fast and leaving to the next one as soon as you're done. Use minigun/HMG turret to get the attention and cull the hordes

Then they should have made it impossible to play alone, and require 2 players minimum. The people that solo difficulty 9 and 10 are crazy and devoted to the game, albeit sweaty from lack of a shower. Most people don't want to play with randoms and take the risks that come with that. Solo play is fine, but should come with some challenge. Against the bugs and bot for me solo diving on difficulty 5 or 6 is a 75%-80% success rate. The Illuminates are ridiculously hard.

you need to learn the new enemy, I give you that some units feel too tanky and the general zombies are swarming like crazy
it took me many games just to find good weapons and stratagems and to come up with adapting my gameplay to counter them
now its still def harder then bugs or automatons on the same level but it is not impossible

I can give few pointers, majority of the time the loss is due to loadouts not working against the squids. Having a good loadout trivialises this faction.

• Have a turret, gatling sentry simply annihilates the jet pack squids and vaporises them, which is often the main issue when fighting against a horde due to their huge damage (albeit bad accuracy), if you can aim well, their jet pack is their best weak spot, their crouch (I know this sounds weird but I guess their brains are in their private parts) is the second best weak spot.
  
• One shot weapons do NOT work well against squids, drop any weapon thats in this category, they will and can soak up the very first hit you will do easily, you need a weapon that deals consistent damage with good ammo.
  
• Gas strike is amazing when holding a choke, except the strider with 3 legs, it will pretty much take care of other enemies and give you time.
  
• Stalwart is simply amazing when taking care of voteless, since they have so little health and many of them. Its also very good when taking care of spawn areas, as it can break the shield quickly with little cost. Consider giving it a try and get a feel if you like the weapon.
  
• Arc thrower works very well against squids, other than strider it can stun lock squids and one shot voteless. Against striders, it prevents them from firing their laser. Give it a try.
  
• Striders weak point is the connection part between the main body and its legs, most medium armor penetrating weapons can kill it if you aim accurately. Avoid getting too close or you will be zapped, killing you instantly.
  
• ALWAYS kill the drone, reinforcements are called by it. If you take care of the drone, no reinforcements. Even if you are being mauled to death by enemies, drone first.
  
• Against all claims, Exosuits works VERY well against squids, its just tanky enough that you can stay alive long enough to deplete your ammo. Your arms are weak points however, if it gets destroyed, your mech is wasted.
  
• Napalm orbital barrage does big damage, just like general brash intended.
  
• Tesla towers in defense actually work extremely well, just make sure it doesn't zap you and you can enjoy a single tesla tower killing 5 reinforcement deployments with ease, more so if you can defend it against attacks.
  
• Play with sentries, I mean it. I said with gatling sentry but all deployable building like strategems work very well against squids and voteless.

There is many more, but I hope these few pointers can help you out.

Do you really think all complaints and criticism is 'whining'? Would you rather people review bomb the game a 3rd time instead of venting frustrations in a forum? I'm not saying people should harass the devs or boycott the game. People are allowed to give their opinions, but you antagonizing isn't helpful.
