I'm Officially Calling It

As of 28th May 2024 this game is now officially dead. I appreciate that you may disagree however I am the first to call it. After analyzing the stats on SteamDB I have no doubt it is game over for HellDiver II.

The only pertinent debates now should be, what caused the week on week decline since February that has left this games player base a shell of its former self, but also what now of the chances for a Hell Diver III sequel?

Zero chance on PC is my guess.

I think the curve looks similar to all other games that became a hype success in the beginning and then percentage wise most players fell away, but the curve flattened at alike 20k or so. And I don't think it's a sign of failure at all actually. Even though there are so many idiotic design decisions made from this dev team I feel like they should be punished for it. But I know they won't. So, at some point I'll just stop playing and forget about it and the 20k will be the ones left still playing. Most will move on, but enough will stay. The game wont die.

Yes we are talking about the Steam player base. Hence why I said Hell Hiver III won't be coming to PC.

Right back at you; this game is actually performing above average for a game of it's type and age, despite various controversies. Oddly enough, games tend to attract a lot of initial interest, which declines rapidly until a core player base equalises; been that way for about 4-ish decades, in fact. Also, an 'online' game can't really be classified as 'dead' until (barring other factors) there are so few players, the servers get shut down due to lack of cost-benefit; HD2 seems a very long way from that.

Oh, and BTW: where's your copy of the game, son? I think we have an Unmanaged Socialist right here, boys...

Sony's stupid choices about PSN and regional access were the tipping point.

I imagine a lot of people were just playing because HD2 was the current popular thing. Then Sony sweeps in, pisses idiocy all over everything,

HD2 goes from being the cool thing everyone likes to the hatetrain's favorite stop for the month.
