SEAF Marine Airdrop Strategum
This has probably already been suggested, but I wanted to see what the community thinks:

Idea is straight forward at it's core (though I know it'd be difficult to implement)

SEAF Marine Airdrop Strategum:

- Deploys several SEAF Marines to the target location via Pelican 1
- SEAF Marines would fan out around an objective if they're on one and provide cover
- Armed with Liberators
- Would follow the player once the player leaves an objective
- Could extract with the player, or be left as a 'garrison' on the planet if that's more thematic.

I'll be honest: I don't think it *needs* to be a strong strategum it just needs to be fun.
Here's what I was thinking balance wise:

Similar to orbital laser, as a long cooldown, limited use strategum.

Would deploy 4-6 marines, who would be squishy - but shoot accurately and do their best to use cover.
(Would be immersion breaking if they just stood in the open and fired from the shoulder)

Heck, even having them go prone or crouch in the open would probably be enough!

_

Pros:
- Caters to leadership player archetype
- Makes the universe feel more alive and dynamic (right now all we have are bodies of SEAF)
- Potentially opens up new mission types in the future, as combat marines AI would exist
- Fills a mobile support strategum niche

Cons:
- Would likely be cannon fodder at high difficulties, and very strong at lower ones
- Likely difficult for the devs to implement
- Likely to be buggy on release (though that's part of the fun!)
- Could be difficult to explain having them extract with Pelican 1
(I say we leave them on the planet as a garrison, so that they can restore managed democracy in our stead!)

Anyhow! I've always loved having AI allies in games. I remember back as a kid playing Halo and wishing I could airdrop marines on demand, and I really feel that finally being able to fight alongside the SEAF even to a limited extent would really breathe even more life into the universe!

Thoughts guys? If you like the idea, how would you like to see it implemented - and if not, why not?

Considering that the only non-enemy AI that exists in the game to my knowledge are the colonists you evacuate, I really don't see them going to the effort to build an entire AI system for friendly human NPCs just for one stratagem.

Theres some really old footage of this exact strat being a thing when people were hackin into the game to test stuff. I believe the foundation is actually laid out for the strat.

this short has the short clip of it. idk if its fan made tho or just super buggy. the solders dont even touch the ground lol.

looks like a 5 man team with one MG43 and 4 libs in it

would make for a unique strat lol cause gotta remember the force multiplier of all 4 divers taking it lol. if its 5 dudes x4 thats 24 humans on the map at once in one concentrated area.
so not necessarily cannon fodder with enough body's they could hold the line well enough. especially if they made a standard team and a heavy weapons team.

they would have to be pretty inaccurate to balance it in the case of 4 people using it.
and also make them friendly fire to help prevent this massive blob from destroying everything.

Good point - that would be kind of fun to build a strategy around! We *could* give them tons of inaccurate weapons like shotguns instead and make them cross eyed, so that it's a liability to have them (sort of like turrets)
This implies that the helldivers aren't enough to do the job.

Need flash buddy, helldivers are exactly the only units you need to do the most insane missions. Everything else is baggage.

Cool. You're the guy I want to hear from if you disagree.

Why is it a horrible idea?

Simple, we don't need horrible useless AI "soldiers". We are a 4 man elite with 4 super destroyers. It just doesn't make any sense.
Cool, not your cuppa tea - I don't take heavy armour because I'm a badass that prefers stealth.

Doesn't mean heavy armour is useless, I just don't like it. ;)

this was leaked many months ago. and so far. most of the stuff that was leaked all those months ago have been slowly added to the game. so we have a very good chance at seeing it.

That'd be pretty cool, can tell this is just a super early concept but cool
