Why are so many people mad about "woke" people?
Woke is now defined in this dictionary as “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice),”
- Merriam-Webster.
What's so bad about caring about other people that it's the top comment in EVERY SINGLE update notice?

Then there's people that are butt-hurt because there seem to be limits on personal choices that go beyond 'do what you like as long as you don't harm others'. These limits seem to exist because of the first group, who would need to infringe on basic rights to enforce their preference on others.

Some people then respond to that, by talking about harms that are less-concrete, but theoretically can exist based on what could logically happen, of what has already happened generalised from discrete examples, and then there's the one that actually matters: intent.

So there exists a pointless debate that's not really about the issues that seem to be discussed, but whole cultures forming in mutual-antagonism, and each hostile to the other's intent as they themselves see it. Suspicion is a defence mechanism, whilst carelessly-worded talking-points will get cited as clear evidence of intent.

Are strong female characters a problem? No, and they weren't when entertainment fiction first made them heroes. What changed is how they were used and for what purpose.

That also applies to casting choices that are agnostic(or outright destructive) towards the fictional history of a setting, the themes that are used, the moral that is demonstrated(these days they prefer to lecture rather than demonstrate), and even the business case for all of it.

This means that what should be discussion about clear faults with the standards of writing, production and consumer delivery, all get traced back to the intent that incorporated specific ideals into everything. It's easier to skip to the end than untangle the little wires when debating how Star Wars was ruined.

I sense un-generosity among people in all different groupings I've described.

Remember the war on terror years? Couldn't move for grey-brown military shooters that were obviously political. I can ask anyone how they either didn't realise it was happening then when it was their politics as background radiation in culture, and I can ask others how they can not recognise the same thing happening now it's their politics that are in everything.

I predict the response from both would be like: it's okay when we do it.

we play video games to escape these issues, there's already more than enough of wokeness in real life, we don't want to see it in the games we play and love

Yeah, but is LGBTQ+ people existing really so offensive that people have to make comments about it in a game that doesn't feature any of it?

Helldivers II is the only game I have ever seen where this stupid BS happens, I have never seen another game where people whine quite as hard about a non-existent problem, and about other people existing, as this one.

It's politics. Simple as that.

Nobody wants politics in their games.

Let us play and have fun. Most gamers play games to get AWAY from real life politics, not have them showed down our throat even here.

Why not just no politics period?
Not to mention that the game already takes a political stance.

This f ck r doesnt even play the game. Profile set to private. Twitter troll that seen we were having fun in this game from all the memes posted and had to come ruin it.

Like I said before, they want disenfranchised minority groups to STFU and keep video games a cishet white male fantasy playground. The same motive that Gamergate was about using "integrity in video game journalism" as a pretense given how women in the gaming industry were given incel grade harassment and threats.
