Enhancing Sentry AI to Avoid Friendly Fire
I love using sentry to defend our positions on diff 10, but it's frustrating when they end up killed allied Helldivers. The turrets are equipped with CAMERAS and LIDAR sensors, so they should theoretically recognize friend from foe. I always position my turrets with enough distance from my teammates and mark their locations, but there always seems to be someone who runs in front of them at the wrong moment.

One potential improvement could be adding a module to the ship that makes the turrets more discerning before firing—something like a recognition system where Helldivers are equipped with an NFC chip that helps identify friendly targets. Additionally, changing the sentry beacon color from 'blue' to 'green' might help increase visibility and avoid these friendly fire incidents. What do you guys think?

Being stupid as hell is the hallmark of Helldivers' sentries. It stays, no debate.

It would already be enough if the turrets would work with line of sight instead of shooting a wall in front of enemies.
They only need to modify how targetting and line of sight works. But this isn't just a problem in this game, many games have the same flaw.
Don't stand between the turret and the enemy
It's clearly a deliberate decision same with rover, tough luck

I would rather ay best they clip allies and go Opps! Unless of course the Ally is farther away and within the spray and pray zone lol but closer allies could at least not be fired through haha like at least a smaller 15M radius if it detects you within that smaller area in line of sight it'll wait till you move to fire. Further ones and mortor though shouldn't consider that, it should be on us to not face tank while a mortor is out haha
The horribly reckless nature of sentries is 100% intended. It will not be changed and it shouldn't be.

As for upgrades to "fix" this they already added the mortar cross-platform upgrade. Though I'm pretty sure almost nobody uses it, and last time I tried it didn't even work.
Helldivers always was and hopefully always will be about unexpected friendly fire:)) That is game mechanic and all of us have to think about that, when call a sentry. :)

You have to be careful where you shoot, and if there is a turret especially. Or climb on it, go prone,... or hide behind someting.

This! Lol
I would be okay with a slight mitigation of it, but I wouldn't want it completely gone.
Helldivers wouldnt be expendable if they had value to Super Earth...... 🤣

As others said the better change would be them not shooting at walls/dead bodies that have live enemies hiding behind them.

Golden rule to avoid FF is just put them on elevation and then make sure your below that.

i dont understand why only mortar got the "shoot what the players tag" upgrade, it would be a nice thing for all sentry turret
but still keep FF because that's the core of the game, if you die from a sentry it all you fault, with situationnal awarness FF never kill you if your mate dont voluntary try to kill you

Problems start when said turret does a 180 and shoots you in the back because it detected a Hunter 50m behind you. Strapping a laser to them similar to the ones that are on many guns would go a long way towards avoiding things like that.

AH are probably very afraid of Sentries becoming stupidly OP if players can micromanage them, and IMO they aren't wrong on this one. The AC and Rocket sentries have ridiculous stats, probably to compensate for being stationary and stupid. As long as they don't magdump things they can't realistically harm I don't mind them being uncontrollable.

I went prone on a rocket torret and it sent me flying from the gasses. It seems to have caught my feet LOL.
I don't think you can avoid it. It's just like when someone is firing and another Helldiver walks or dives in front of them. You cannot anticipate what another Diver will do.

I know a lot HD2 players never played HD1, but it's expected there is some amount of chaos. If you never played Magicka, get 4 friends and play that one night and see how many times you accidentally kill your friends. That is just AH's style as several have mentioned above.

the reason is you can low crawl or stand on top of a sentry to avoid it killing teammates. Or even just watch where it's pointing. mortars you can't they are also more prone to FF kills on bug maps since bugs are faster, and almost always miss the bugs but hit teammates.
SO for bug side not only do they not contribute they actively hamper the team. even the tag won't really help bug side. bug speed largely negates it. My guess why it was added, it was probably throw stuff at a wall and see what sticks idea.

I use turrets all the time and find they do only fire with line of sight and dont fire at walls.
