Don't get me wrong, the new flak ammo is fun as hell, but it hugely downgrades the grenade launcher.
Not AC and Recoiless of all things.
Personally I've always found the Autocannon to be the odd one out. It's very strong against medium enemies, but at the cost of a backpack and doesn't do very much to heavy enemies. There are plenty of weapons that work against mediums and don't cost a backpack, some are even primaries.
AMR and AC were always competing with each other, but I don't think AMR's position has been touched since it was never a mobbing weapon, anyway. It was a high-AP primary replacement capable of wrecking non-Tank bots easily if your accuracy was good, it wasn't replacing Airburst.
Airburst is the weapon that needs to watch out. People seem to have forgotten it's in the game.
The point in HMG is you dont lsoe your backpack slot. That lets you bring supply (Stims, grenades, and all ammo types) Shield pack (extra durability) or anything else you could put in that slot.
HMG getting 25 more rounds is exactly what it needed. The durable is essentially a penalty for using it as an anti-tank weapon when its meant to chew through chaff and mediums.
so as far as MGs go:
Stalwart: Maneuvrable, and easy to reload, great ammo capacity (250) great for chaff and suppressing fire, not great for meds, useless on heavys. A great run and gun option, esp for bugs. (No backpack slot needed)
MMG: Less easy to use than Stalwart, have to stop to reload, good ammo capacity (175) Great for Chaff, decent on Mediums, Struggles with Heavys. Good all around pick. (No backpack slot needed)
HMG: Lower capacity, but better than a AC for sustained fire. Chews through chaff and mediums, Loses out on sustained fire of Stalwar and MMG. CAN kill heavys, but not nearly as well as AT weaons, sufferring a penalty on its Durable damage. (No backpack slot needed)
AC: Can chew through chaff and mediums, can kill heavys with little exception (tanks from the Front) have to stop to reload, very little uptime (low capacity) (Takes up backpack slot.)
