"Guard Dog"
Seriously i'm sure I'm not the first one to say this... but would it be too much to ask for you to make the damn thing at least hover a little higher than your head yeah? you like being nailed in the head that much by the thing that's supposed to be protecting you yeah? like this "Guard Dog" is 50-85% actually a "Suicide/Murder Dog" the worst part is that it not only hovers right at head level most of the time it also tries to relocate when you're trying to get out of the line of fire that it so carefully adopted... That being right behind you >_> brother I swear! also let me mention that its targeting of airborne enemies is worse than mine.

PS: The Rover is seemingly the worst offender when it comes to not so friendly fire.

It seems hit or miss on if it decides to kill you or not. I was doing a machine gun build with it for fun and it only killed me like twice in about 8 games, so not terrible honestly. My special hatred for "Teamkiller 9000" is the damn mortar sentry. For bugs you are always being rushed down, it makes no sense using it there. And for bots you are still being rushed down by hulks and berserkers. Also makes holding the wall on generator defense a suicide mission since some enemies get stuck near the wall and the mortar has a decent spread on its shells.

Absolutely. I might kill myself here and there with the laser, but that mortar wants blood 24/7

The chance for mortars on bugs seems to be directly correlated with the number of PS5 players in your game.

I can intuitively understand the mortar sentry will kill me if I stand too close to enemies within its targeting range. This gives me some avenue to prevent my own death by the mortar.

There is little I can do to prevent my teammate's Guard Dog from teamkilling me other than to get away from my teammate. However, the teammate using the Guard Dog is a human being with their own free will and thus can follow me around, forcing his drone to teamkill me on accident and that is beyond my ability to control.
Counterpoint: Teammate drops a mortar in another location and you weren't paying attention.
You cannot see the mortar from your position, but you are within range.
You are now dead.

Revolutionary idea:
how about making the rovers ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STOP SHOOTING when your head is about to cross its aim?

I'm a genius, I know.... right AH?

You're just bullying the robo pitties. Cupcake would never shoot anyone!

I hear crouching or laying prone keeps your head from getting shot off too.

Look into my eyes.

I am the real genius now.

I use the Guard Dog (not Rover) all the time vs Bugs, and honestly, I think it only ever shoots me if I suddenly step up onto a rock or something while it's firing, putting my head in front of it. With medium armor and health boost, it hits me once and doesn't (quite) kill me. I almost never die to it. Not sure why my experience is so different from others.

My experiences are nearly identical. AR guard dog only seem to hit me when the enemy unit is at a steep angle down and it very very rarely hits allies. It will however destroy a friendly exosuit leg super fast trying to shoot through them.

Edit: Just for completeness. My experiences with the rover is generally a dog that has trouble hitting things and is very good at aggroing every enemy within 150 meters as it pans around with its laser. It likes to do chip damage to me and I have to always be ready to be suddenly on fire. Way more trouble than it is worth.

It's a great backpack item but even I decided to switch that slot out for now for a RR combo. Only killed me 1 in 20 times, but sometimes enough is enough.

Nah, I think this game needs to have these stupid things in it for the dark violent slapstick humour to still exist in the game, post weapon buffs / gameplay rework.

It's common for people to laugh at how stupid the turrets and guard dogs are in this game in the first week but then not find it funny anymore and just want it to work like a normal game.

But this isn't a normal game. It's still gotta have that slapstick ♥♥♥♥ or it's not helldivers anymore.

You'l addapt to its crap factor after not too long though. whenever someone near me is using one I crouch near them, and just get ready for it to try to shoot something in the distance.

Oh yeah, this change would be really good.

That's fair. I would also love if the gun wasn't the og assault rifle too ! Imagine an adjudicator following you everywhere shooting through medium armor <3

I know you can use guard dogs without getting hit by friendly fire, but they're not worth the risk. They need to AT MINIMUM not shoot any Helldivers with a guard dog backpack in their line of fire. Otherwise why not take a more reliable stratagem.
