Why are there so many people on Achird III?
Isn't the major order for the planet sitting next to it? Darius II? Darius is also the supply line, so taking it would win Achird, anyway, or do I have that wrong?

More importantly, how are so many people on a planet and still failing defense?

The majority of people don't understand the galactic meta. Most people sign on, see planet under attack, and just do some missions.

Darius can't be taken from 0% to 100% in the time it would take to complete the defense.
A3 is only 6 hours behind the deadline, but it probably needs like 10k more divers to push it at this point.

Because absolutely nothing is explained about how the galactic war works and the people who bother looking at it on the net is probably around 1% of the players. Assuming a lot of that 1% actually bother explaining things to others during gameplay, it would be optimistic to believe that around 10% of the players may have an idea about how this ♥♥♥♥ works.

So there is that.

I don't know how the mechanics work exactly, I usually leave that to the experts in the GalacticWar discord channel and the metrics on https://helldiverscompanion.com/#

What I can tell you is that while Darius wasn't going to liberate in the 24 hour defense window A3 has, if we put up a good defense on A3 it will start at 50% liberated after it falls, and it can more easily be taken back (unless it gets a really high regen rate).

Also the gap to victory has closed to a 4 hour difference, so not all is quite lost yet

The MO is almost a week long. If we could have knocked the defense out in a day it would have secured the flank from a counter-attack, BUT the attack is tuned too high to stop and people should have abandoned the planet after a few hours of trying to defend it. Players are difficult to get to switch targets though, so here we are.

Who knows, maybe they will retune it before the end and we can pull off the defense.

It takes more than a day to cap a planet 99% of the time. Capping Darius II AFTER the defense fails won't help. There's effectively 0 chance of pulling off a Gambit in this situation, simply because Darius II is sitting at 0%.

If we lose Achird III then Turing will be in danger
Too bad not everyone realizes that
