Difference between Difficulty 7 and 8
Hey, fellow divers.

Is it just me or does difficulty 8 feel a little bit off?

Diff. 7 is pretty chill when you have a decent squad but diff. 8 gets really sweaty most of times and it is very hard to get through a mission where you have to hold your ground like geo-surveys and flag-raising missions.

it feels more like diff. 8.5 atm - it would propably be a good idea to do some tweaking there, like 50% armored striders and 50% normal striders or half the amount of tanks for example.

There is a definite loadout change between 7 and 8. There are many that just stay on 7. There is no requirement that you need to play on higher difficulties as you progress. Play on the difficulty that is fun for you.

absolutely true - but atm diff. 7 is getting a bit boring and 100% doable - i just wanna up the challenge without the game becoming near impossible for certain mission sets.

it's either play on D7 or straight to D10, you want to chill? D7, you want to fight more? D10, the bonus part you get more XP, D8-9 are just fillers.

I have lvl 125 by now and everything unlocked - it is just about having fun with it by now - i am merely talking about how the difficulty-curve from 7-8 feels weird especially when you optimize your gear.

on 7 you can pretty much play with everything and be more or less successful.

but then 8 comes around and it is getting really difficult even when you run with a squad that's optimizing gear for that difficulty? like two railguns and two recoilless rilfes fe.

I don't think the difficulties mean too much in this game, because Arrowhead constantly keep breaking spawns.

During the failed planetary defense a couple days ago against bots, our squad was attacked by what looked like an endless stream of dropships and constant packs of trash and armored units. Had to be at least 200 kills racked up while waiting for the dropship.

Meanwhile, I did multiple missions yesterday where there was nothing but crickets on extraction.

It used to be only bugs that did this, now it's both. My guess is that there's some kind of hidden multiplier under the hood for different planets tied to decay rate or something. Or maybe they just keep screwing up the values for spawn rates because they keep tweaking them every other patch to mixed results and the engine just goes =D and =P.

the real challenge on dificult 8 and above is the change of loadut and weapon everything you learn from dificult 7 and below is useless which is why minimun dificult you must play is 8 to learn how to play and know the new enemies and how to kill them so keep tryng even you failed and make many mistakes you will get used to the point you would do it to D10

i am not saying that it is impossible to do those missions, given the right loadout - i am just saying that the pain-curve doesn't fit with the rest of the game.

i did mission sets on 10 - it is not like i cannot finish those. but it is not what i go for when i want to have fun, some challenge and still being able to collect stuff on the maps like super credits and samples and so on.

actually does fits if you played the first version of the game that was more harder than D10 we have now
They're going to end up nerfing reinforced striders. They have to. They're badly designed. It wouldn't be so bad if their rockets didn't constantly knock you out of solid hard cover, but they sure as ♥♥♥♥ do. I've played this game a ton, and I don't like going above 7 for bots. Bugs are a joke; they don't shoot back.

considering they take 7 month realize making the game unfun make people leave the game they gonna take maybe another 7 to remove the ragdolling effect to ralize also is not fun

8 is where the medium and heavy unit spam begin.

7 simply offer you the full variety of every enemy bite sized chunks.

iirc rocket striders only appear at 8 but I wouldn't know because I only play 10

would be kinda cool if the game got harder because of enemies becoming smarter, faster, or throwing more grenades than normal and not just outright spamming units without any effort.

or maybe the factory strider having 4 "balconies" on it's sides where heavy devastators are sitting on, kinda like the "Oliphaunt"-Creatures from lord of the rings where the amount of chaff/mediums sitting on it goes up depending on the difficulty.

or maybe tank factory striders that pop out tanks instead of devastators, medium and heavy fabricators in bases that pop out devastators, hulks and tanks instead of the normal ones.

not increasing the difficulty by throwing endless amount of stuff at you but making the enemies that you encounter harder. like having a heavy devastator with 2 shields in hand and a rocketpod on their backs for stronger barrages instead.

Eh. Any difficulty that introduces an enemy that wasn't on the previous difficulty is technically a big jump. It's just most noticeable at D8 because the game isn't hard at D4 (Chargers, Hulks, Tanks), D6 (Bile Titans), or D7 (Spore Chargers, Factory Striders).

From D7 to D10, though, the XP+Req multiplier starts going up by 50% each level instead of 25%. If you want to double your gains between D7 (150%) and D10 (300%), I guess they really want you to earn it. Trial by fire, since if you can beat D8, you're probably alright for D10.

And by "beat", I mean "win with few deaths while being an asset to the team", not "join on the last mission of the operation and get carried".
