Freedom's Flame flamethrower primary better than support?
Recently got Freedom's Flame and I'm really liking the weapons. Now I'm just wondering if there's any point to bringing the support flamethrower when this primary one seems better in every way. (Harder to set yourself on fire with, more ammo, shorter reload, primary slot leaving room for stratagem)

Are there downsides to it I'm not seeing? Seems kind of odd for a primary weapon to outperform a support weapon like this.

The support weapon version does more direct damage, so while technically you can kill a charger with the primary weapon from the front, you will need more time / ammo to do it. The support weapon also benefits from ship upgrades that make burning applied by it deal 25% more damage.

If you're just using it to set the ground on fire and run, the primary and support are roughly comparable, if you want to use it against heavier targets the support weapon does a lot more damage.

TLDR, the flamethrower does about 40% more DPS than the Torcher on direct hits and about 25% more damage from the burning dot (with ship module).

its a catch 22 imo, I prefer having the support flame so I can bring a primary, where my buddy brings the primary flamer, so he can bring the support flamer too...

but yeah from what I can tell they are totally on par with eachother so it comes down to what slot you want to open up if you're bringing fire.

If you're just using it to set the ground on fire and run, the primary and support are roughly equal, if you want to use it against heavier targets the support weapon does a lot more damage.

Ooh, okay, that makes sense. Thanks. Exactly what I wanted to know.

Time to kill hasn't really been a problem for me yet, despite having the fire ship upgrade. I guess I'll give some time to see if that changes. I usually play with others who focus more on big targets, so the direct damage isn't that big of a loss.

The 3 flamethrowers all do pretty much the same thing, it's just a question of which slot you want to spend for it, and understanding that you get as much flamethrower as your slot pays for.

But yeah I can't remember using the support flamethrower since FF. There are way better support options.

Totally fair tbh. I just love setting bugs on fire, inefficiency/self immolation be damned. :lscientist:

I take the heavy flamer, support flamer and flamer pistol. You can't have enough fire on you...

the torcher differs from the stratagem flamethrower in the following ways, the torcher has: less range, almost equal overall ammo (80*7=540 while 100*5=500) less overall damage, furthermore the torcher DOES NOT benefit from ship upgrades to fire damage as it is NOT a stratagem. the Torcher has BETTER handling than the bigger flamethrower and often feels snappy in comparison to the big flamethrower.

in my preference for playstyle: I love the torcher in that it allows me to carry both a flamethrower and the GL, or another stratagem weapon of your choosing.

That ship upgrade should effect those weapons any fire based weapon should be added to that 25% fire upgrade

All the flamers are equally good at setting you on fire when a flaming Hunter jumps into your lap :p
