Is B-08 Light Gunner a good armor? (Light armor with Extra padding)
Thoughts?

Yeah, you get the speed of light armor with the durability of medium armor. Extra padding is very strong in general, the 200 armor rating one is ridiculously durable and the standard 150 armor is a nice mix. I like the light gunner set if I'm running RR on bugs and want to get around quickly and place turrets and take out heavies with my RR.

I been running it 95% of my playtime and i'd say yeah it is good

Extra Padding passive makes it be as durable as Medium Armour while having the speed and stamina stats of a light armour

Plus it looks kinda cool in a more grounded type of way

IMO it's not worth giving up a good perk for the xtra padding.

I've found the opposite, most perks aren't worth the durability difference.

50% explosion resistance definitely is and I have an uncommonly favorable kills to deaths ratio.

50% explosion resist is ok, but armor is more applicable to more enemies.

The following numbers assume vitality booster is being used:

Due to how the math works, 150 fortified armor vs 200 raw armor an explosion does 15% of its raw damage to 150 fort and 20% of its raw damage to 200 av. So a 500 damage explosion would be 75 damage vs one and 100 damage vs the other, note you have 125 base health.

In short you take 50% more damage against all non explosion sources while taking 25% less damage from explosions with 150 armor fortified vs 200 AV, at 100 fort vs 150 raw it's 33% more damage taken while taking 33% less explosion damage, and finally 50 vs 100 is 25% more damage taken for 37.5% less explosion damage taken.

Explosions kill me more than any other things and the explosion resist works on both fronts (as does the extra padding) but it also lets me go close range with MY explosive weapon in a pinch and survive it and that has saved my life much more than being able to survive a second hunter swipe or shot from a bot. And on top of that I get some recoil reduction if I kneel or lay down. It's just too much to give up in my opinion.

All of that said the B-24 Enforcer armor which gives extra padding to get you over the 100 for head protection threshold AND explosive resist, is my favorite bot armor.

I find I rarely die to explosions, and if I do it's the impact damage that killed me, if it works for you that's great, for me surviving a couple more hunter swings puts in massive work.

Personally it's one of my favorite armors, but it depends on your loadout. With some guns you might want/prefer handling bonus or reduced recoil while crouching.

Personally this armor, the FS-37 Ravager, and PH-9 Predator are my favorite armors depending on what I'm doing.

Ravager is probably my #1 just because more grenades is good and better recoil while crouching is good, plus it looks snazzy with that arm patch.

Explosive resistance is only really going to help you against bots or idiot team mates in my experience, and half the time you get flung into an object that kills you anyway since impact damage is not the same thing as explosive damage.

Honestly all the 'elemental resistance' armors seem...not great to me unless you're doing some kind of lolz strategy where you shoot yourself for some reason. Maybe the fire resist armor is decent just because fire tornado exist and lots of morons use incendiary without aiming but...eh. There are better options.

If it's not Democracy Protects it doesn't matter. Nothing else will actually save your life, just delay the inevitable most of the time.

From what I understand, extra padding on heavy armor goes past the the armor threshold where it protects your head from one shots. So on light/med it can be ok, but you're still prone to headshots, ragdolling and one shots from missile striders on diff 8 and higher.

Head damage reduction kicks in on armors that have more than 100 armor value. This means that medium armor (100 armor) does not protect your head any better than light. Anything with an effective armor value of 101 or higher does start giving headshot damage reduction, scaling with armor all the way to 200 armor (heavy armor + padding).

Currently there is no light armor with 51 or higher armor value with padding, so no light armor will ever give you headshot damage reduction. All medium armor with padding or the few medium armors that have 129 armor give headshot damage reduction. All heavy armors, obviously, give headshot damage reduction.

Hmm, I think the best defense against bugs is speed. Most bugs have melee or short-range attacks, so getting hit is usually due to player error or just bad luck with positioning.

I like those:
- CE-07 Demolition Specialist Armor [helldivers.wiki.gg] - Engineering Kit
extra Nades & reduced recoil while prone/crouching.
(Alternative : CE-67 Titan Armor [helldivers.wiki.gg] or CE-74 Breaker Armor [helldivers.wiki.gg] )

- SC-30 Trailblazer Scout Armor [helldivers.wiki.gg] (or alike) - Scout
pairs well with Localisation Confusion passive - stealth
