Do you need more nades and better recoil?
Do you want to have more mobility?
Do you want to be able to throw further?
Do you want more limb health?
Do you want to take a 50% chance of not taking a fatal blow?
Do you want more stims?
What is the meta?
Whatever fits your preferred loadout the best. Whatever helps you survive better.
Really, some people (like me) swear by light armor, some will tell you they can't go without medium, and a few brave souls pick heavy armor against terminids.
And it's the same when it comes to armor perks: you have the extra padding lovers, the stim addicts gourmets, the thermite-tossing maniacs, the gym bros who like having big guns on their arms in addition to their hands, the gamblers who love the feeling of surviving stuff they have no business living through, the pyromaniacs who want to see the world burns (including themselves), the stealth enthusiasts, and the basic bores who just don't want to instantly melt when hit by bile (that's me).
On the bot front I tend to just take heavier versions of these or if I'm feeling extra boring I just take the explosive damage reducing armors.
Luckily for you, the light version of it is currently on sale in the super store. If you don't have Democratic Detonation. Otherwise there is one right there on the first page.
personally I'm currently having massive fun with
Heavy with more nades.
Tenderizer
Grenade pistol for bug holes.
Termite nades
Orbital Gatling
Orbital Napalm
Liberty pen Guard Dog
Machine Gun.
Also this,
I have armour sets for bugs and bots.
The armour should preferably be medium, as it sometimes lets you take one more hit over light.
