I've more or less settled on EAT being my preferred bug support weapon with the recoilless rifle being a close second. The commando just really isn't even close.
Against bots, commando is good as a way to snipe cannon turrets and tanks but that's really it. Definitely an important thing to have but not really usable as your only support weapon.
Just use both...
Cant a eat destroy the back leg armor of the impaler so that you can finish it with normal weapons
They know what they want to do with it, the problem is they have three different ideas of what they want it to do and they all contrast with themselves and they keep changing it on a whim
It started out as a short range big AoE damage weapon. Then it got changed to a wannabe scorcher (that's what Alexis said he wanted when he changed it) and now it's a one handed weapon that sucks as both roles and fires too slowly to be relevant
Also FYI for impaler, either always take an orbital precision for the instant-kill or switch your Stalwart/MG/HMG up to max fire rate while it plunges its tentacles in the ground, and unload in the gigantic weakspot it exposes.
It seems to react to weapons similarly to the spitters, who also don't give a ♥♥♥♥ if you hit them with AT weapons.
The Quasar clearly competes with the likes of rocket launchers and the biggest one it'll be compared to is naturally the recoilless rifle. It has 3 speeds of recharge to account for; cold planet, regular, and hot planet. Back then the regular recharge time was 10s, while a recoilless reload is something around to under 5. It's only in more favor of the Quasar for this comparison to be on a cold planet.
A nerf to the Quasar Cannon was always acceptable, it recharged some too fast, and it's niche (as it is achieving currently) is being your sporadic yet infinite source of rockets. You want faster takedowns, you would go the recoilless, or you could go EATs for something (as the name suggests) more expendable. You can now go the Commando for an enhanced version of the expendables essentially.
That was why it was meta. Now it's in line with the other options, and something I bring if I'm in the mood, because there's now successful build diversity at hand with options not necessarily overshadowing each other as a general note.
Talking about it being bad on the Impaler is a bit of a nothingburger as it's just an enemy in question that DPS on the head when exposed is more ideal on than armor-stripping tactics. Quasar Cannon, being the AT weapon type that's designed around sporadic and unlimited use, of course is going to do poor in the idea of how speedily a takedown it can do on an Impaler. This is just bad play and build or expectations.
