Why is there a muted microphone next to my name?

I play with push to talk, have done so from the beginning but now I have a muted microphone icon next to my name if I don't use voicechat with no option to remove the icon. Who thought this was a good idea??

The update did this. It will change to "speaking" when you are pushing to talk.

It's probably a change to combat mouth-breathers breathing into open mics, to let them know they're constantly hot-micing.

What's the problem? It's just visual confirmation that you're not broadcasting.

I just don't want to see a mic icon next to my name, it's immersion breaking. I just turned off my microphone all together to get it to go away. It shouldn't appear if you are using push to talk. I know it's a small issue on my part but I'm a bit OCD about that kind of thing.

Immersion? As if actual helldivers wouldn't be on comms with each other? Maybe you need to get a new game, anyway.

There are players who don't want to talk and just stay silent. Do you have a problem with that or are you just a jerk for no reason?

It was fine before so why did they need to add the icon? We could just see the speaking icon if someone spoke so why leave the "muted" icon on at all times?

mine is showing the muted icon but the microphone isn't working now after the icon appeared and I also always play on press to talk

Because most computers/microphones have noise gates you can use.

Most PS5 users don't actually do this, seeing as there's a mute button right there on the controller. Most people on PS5 don't communicate at all.
